[목회서신] 더 나은 미래를 위해 지혜롭게 선택하십시오! | Choose Wisely for a Better Future!

더 나은 미래를 위해서는 지혜롭게 선택해야 합니다. 인생은 선택에 의해 만들어집니다. 오늘 우리의 모습은 지나간 과거에 우리가 선택한 것들의 결과입니다. 또한 오늘 우리의 선택이 우리의 미래를 창조하게 됩니다. 선택은 씨앗과 같아서 심은 종류대로 열매를 맺게 됩니다. 잘못된 선택은 좋지 않은 결과를 낳습니다. 반면에 올바른 선택은 좋은 결과를 낳습니다. 우리가 배워야 할 중요한 원리는 우리가 해야 할 선택을 하나님이 대신해 주지 않으신다는 것입니다. 하나님은 우리를 인격자로 창조하셨습니다. 인격자란 스스로 선택하고 결정하는 의지를 가졌다는 것을 의미합니다. 하나님은 우리가 잘 선택하고 올바로 선택하길 원하십니다. 하지만 그 일을 대신해 주지 않으십니다. 그렇다면 우리가 어떻게 해야 좋은 선택을 할 수 있을까요?

첫째, 선택의 중요성을 깨닫는 것입니다. 선택의 중요성을 절실하게 깨달을 때 우리는 좋은 선택을 위해 최선을 다하게 됩니다. 나이가 어릴 때, 젊음의 때에는 선택의 중요성을 잘 모릅니다. 선택이 중요하다고 가르쳐 주어도 건성으로 듣습니다. 우리는 자녀들에게 선택이 얼마나 중요한 가를 거듭 가르쳐 주어야 합니다. 왜 선택이 중요할까요? 선택이 우리 인생에 큰 영향을 끼치기 때문입니다. 때로는 작은 선택이 거대한 회오리바람처럼 영향을 끼칠 수 있습니다. 물론 모든 선택이 우리 미래에 영향을 끼치는 것은 아닙니다. 그렇다고 방심해서는 안 됩니다. 어떤 선택은 우리 진로에 결정적인 영향을 끼치게 됩니다. 물론 좋은 선택이면 우리 앞길을 열어줄 것입니다. 반면에 나쁜 선택이면 우리 인생을 비참하게 만들 수 있습니다. 모든 것이 SNS에 기록으로 남는 시대 속에 살고 있는 우리는, 정말 신중해야 합니다. 무슨 말을 남길지, 무슨 사진을 남길지 신중해야 합니다. 한번 SNS에 올린 글은 잘 삭제되지 않습니다. 스스로 삭제했다 할지라도 누군가가 복사해서 가지고 있다면 그것은 계속 우리 삶에 영향을 끼치게 됩니다.

둘째, 잘못된 선택을 했던 과거의 실패로부터 배우십시오. 완벽한 사람은 없습니다. 우리는 실패하고 넘어집니다. 실패가 문제가 아닙니다. 실패로부터 배우지 못한 것이 문제입니다. 잘못된 선택이 문제가 아닙니다. 잘못된 선택으로부터 배우지 못한 것이 문제입니다. 배운다는 것은 과거의 잘못된 선택을 통해 더 나은 선택을 하는 법을 배우는 것입니다. 잘못된 선택을 반면교사로 삼는 것입니다. 탁월한 선택을 하는 사람들은 과거의 실패로부터 잘 배운 사람들입니다. 우리는 더 나은 선택을 통해 과거의 실수를 역전시킬 수 있습니다. 잘못된 선택을 했다고 우리 인생이 쉽게 망가지는 것이 아닙니다. 우리 인생은 얼마든지 역전될 수 있습니다.

셋째, 하나님께 분별하는 지혜를 구하십시오. 하나님은 우리가 기도할 때 분별하는 지혜를 선물해 주십니다. “너희 중에 누구든지 지혜가 부족하거든 모든 사람에게 후히 주시고 꾸짖지 아니하시는 하나님께 구하라 그리하면 주시리라”(약 1:5). 바울은 빌립보교회 성도들이 선한 것을 분별하는 지혜를 얻도록 중보 기도를 드렸습니다. 그는 선한 것을 분별하는 데 지식이 필요하고 총명이 필요함을 알았습니다. “내가 기도하노라 너희 사랑을 지식과 모든 총명으로 점점 더 풍성하게 하사 너희로 지극히 선한 것을 분별하며 또 진실하여 허물없이 그리스도의 날까지 이르고”(빌 1:9-10). 분별력을 얻기 위해서는 성경을 읽어야 합니다. 성경은 우리에게 분별하는 지혜를 가르쳐 줍니다. 특별히 올바로 분별하고 탁월하게 선택할 줄 알았던 하나님의 사람들을 통해 분별하는 지혜를 배울 수 있습니다. 모세는 바로 왕의 공주의 아들이 되기보다 하나님의 백성들을 위해 고난 받는 것을 선택했습니다. 모압 여인 룻은 모압의 신을 버리고 여호와 하나님을 선택했습니다. 시어머니를 공경하는 길을 선택했습니다. 사랑과 헌신의 길을 선택했습니다.

넷째, 성령님의 인도를 받으십시오. 우리가 예수님을 영접할 때 우리 안에 성령님이 들어오시게 됩니다. 성령님은 우리를 도와주기 원하십니다. 성령님은 우리를 모든 진리 가운데로 인도해 주십니다. 성령님은 분별의 영이십니다. 성령님은 하나님의 뜻을 분별하고, 하나님의 때를 분별하도록 도와주십니다. 함께 해야 할 사람과 피해야 할 사람을 분별하도록 도와주십니다. 우리가 원하는 길보다 더욱 좋은 최상의 길로 인도해 주십니다. 성령님은 상담자이십니다. 성령님과 교제하는 시간을 날마다 갖도록 하십시오. 중요하게 결정해야 할 일이 있으면 성령님께 도움을 구하십시오. 성경을 읽으면서 성령님의 도우심을 구하면 성령님께서 더욱 잘 인도해 주십니다.

다섯째, 신뢰할 수 있는 영적 인도자의 도움을 받으십시오. 스승이라고 표현해도 좋고, 멘토라고 표현해도 좋습니다. 탁월한 영적 인도자는 우리가 원하는 것보다 우리에게 필요한 것이 무엇인지 분별하도록 도와줍니다. 우리가 원하는 길보다 하나님이 원하시는 길로 우리를 인도해 줍니다. 우리가 생각하지 못한 최상의 길로 인도해 줍니다. 새 시대가 시작되었습니다. 더 나은 선택을 통해 복된 미래를 창조하시길 빕니다.

Choose Wisely for a Better Future!

We must choose wisely for a better future. Life is created by choices. Who we are today is the result of our choices in the past. And the choices we make today will shape our future. Choices are like seeds, and they bear fruit according to its kind. Wrong choices lead to bad results. On the other hand, right choices lead to good results. An important principle we must learn is that God himself does not make the choices for us that we have to make. God created us as persons. Being a person means that you have the will to choose and make decisions for yourself. God wants us to choose well and choose right. But He doesn't do that on our behalf. So how can we make good choices?

First, it is to realize the importance of choices. When we desperately realize the importance of choices, we do our best to make good choices. When we were young or in our youth, we did not know the importance of choices. Even if someone taught us that making choices were important, we paid little attention to them. We need to repeatedly teach our children how important it is to make wise choices. Why do these decisions matter? Because our choices have a huge influence on our lives. Sometimes small choices can have a great impact like a giant whirlwind. Of course, not all choices affect our future. But that doesn’t mean that you can be careless. Some choices will have a decisive impact on our career path. Of course, a good choice will pave the way for us. On the other hand, a bad choice can make our lives miserable. We live in an era where everything is recorded on social media, so we have to be very careful. You have to be careful what you say and what pictures you post. Once posted on social media, it is not easily deleted. Even if we delete it ourselves, if someone has copied it, it will continue to affect our lives.

Second, learn from your past failures in which you experienced through wrong choices. No one is perfect. We fail and we fall. Failure is not the problem. The problem is not learning from those failure. Bad choices aren't the problem. The problem is that you haven't learned from the wrong choices you’ve made. To learn is to learn to make better choices from past mistakes. It is to consider the wrong choices as lessons. People who make excellent choices are those who have learned from past failures. We can reverse the mistakes of the past by making better choices. Our lives are not easily ruined by making wrong choices. Our lives can be turned around.

Third, ask God for the wisdom of discernment. God gives us the wisdom of discernment when we pray. “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking” (James 1:5). Paul interceded for the saints in Philippi to gain the wisdom to discern what is good. He knew that it required knowledge and intelligence to discern what was good. “I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return” (Philippians 1:9–10). To gain discernment, we must read the Bible. The Bible teaches us the wisdom of discernment. In particular, we can learn the wisdom of discernment through God's people who knew how to discern correctly and make excellent choices. Moses chose to suffer for God's people rather than to be the son of Pharaoh's princess. Ruth, a Moabite woman, rejected the gods of Moab and chose the LORD God. She chose to honor her mother-in-law. She chose the path of love and devotion.

Fourth, receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit. When we accept Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes into us. The Holy Spirit wants to help us. The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of discernment. The Holy Spirit helps us to discern God's will and to discern God's timing. He helps us to discern who to be with and whom to avoid. He leads us to the best path that is better than the path we want. The Holy Spirit is the Counselor. Make time for daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit for help with important decisions. If you ask for the help of the Holy Spirit while reading the Bible, the Holy Spirit will guide you better.

Fifth, seek the help of a trusted spiritual guide. The spiritual guide can be called as a teacher or as a mentor. An excellent spiritual guide helps us to discern what we need rather than what we want. He leads us to the path God wants us to rather than the path we want. He leads us to the best way we never thought. A new era has begun. I wish you to create a blessed future through better choices.
