[목회서신] 소속의 중요성을 깨닫는 지혜 | Wisdom of Realizing the Importance of Belonging

인생을 살아가는 데 아주 중요한 것은 건강한 자아상입니다. 자아상은 자신의 이미지와 관련되어 있습니다. 사람은 누구나 어떤 이미지를 갖고 살아갑니다. 우리는 하나님의 형상 곧 하나님의 이미지(the image of God)를 갖고 태어났습니다. 건강한 자아상은 우리의 정체성과 밀접한 관련이 있습니다. 정체성이란 우리의 정체가 누군가를 의미합니다. 어릴 적, 숨바꼭질을 할 때 우리는 서로에게 “정체를 밝히라”고 말하곤 했습니다. 정체성이란 자신의 정체를 의미합니다. 우리는 자신의 정체성을 따라 살아갑니다. 그런 까닭에 스스로가 어떤 정체성을 가지고 사느냐는 아주 중요합니다.

건강한 자아상을 확립하기 위해서는 네 가지 기둥이 필요합니다. 소속감, 자부감, 자신감, 그리고 사명감이라는 기둥입니다. 가장 근본이 되는 기둥이 소속감이라는 기둥입니다. 그 이유는 소속감에 대한 올바른 이해로부터 자부감, 자신감, 그리고 사명감이 나오기 때문입니다.

소속감은 자신이 누구에게 속해 있으며 어디에 속해 있느냐에 관한 것입니다. 그리스도인들은 하나님께 속해 있습니다. 마귀에게 속해 있지 않습니다. 천국에 속해 있고, 이 세상에 속해 있지 않습니다(요 15:19). 우리가 세상에서 살고 있지만 우리는 세상에 속해 있지 않습니다. 예수님은 “내 나라는 이 세상에 속한 것이 아니니라”(요 18:36)고 말씀하십니다. 가룟 유다는 예수님의 제자였지만 예수님께 속한 자가 아니었습니다. 그래서 그는 유능함에도 불구하고 마귀에 속한 자가 되어 예수님을 은 30에 팔았습니다. 그는 예수님과 함께 했지만 예수님께 속하지 않았기 때문에 그는 잘 배우지 못했습니다. 그는 결국 그가 소속된 길로 갔습니다.

우리는 하나님께 속해 있기 때문에 하나님의 보호를 받습니다. 하나님의 공급을 받습니다. 하나님의 인도를 받습니다. 또한 그리스도인들은 주님의 몸 된 교회에 소속되어 있습니다. 교회에 소속되어 있다는 것은 교회가 제공해 주는 영적 돌봄을 받을 수 있다는 것을 의미합니다. 교회가 제공해 주는 모든 교육 프로그램에 참여할 수 있는 특권을 누린다는 것을 의미합니다. 교회 공동체 안에서 기쁨과 슬픔을 함께 나눌 수 있다는 것을 의미합니다.

소속감에서 자부감이 나옵니다. 자부감은 가치와 관련되어 있습니다. 자부감은 자신이 얼마나 가치 있는 존재인가를 깨닫는 것과 관련되어 있습니다. 자부감은 하나님이 우리를 위해 독생자를 희생할 만큼 가치 있는 존재라는 진리를 깨달을 때 자각하게 됩니다. 자신이 가치 있는 존재라는 것을 깨달을 때 자신이 하는 일이 가치가 있고, 자신이 섬기는 모든 것이 가치가 있게 됩니다. 자신이 가치 있는 존재라는 사실을 깨달을 때 시간을 낭비하지 않습니다. 인생을 낭비하지 않습니다. 함부로 자신을 죄와 유혹에 맡기지 않습니다. 자신이 가치 있는 존재라는 것을 깨달을 때 자신을 잘 가꿉니다. 자신의 지속적인 성장을 위해 교육 받고 훈련받기를 즐거워하게 됩니다.

소속감에서 자신감이 나옵니다. 자신감은 능력과 관련되어 있습니다. 사도 바울은 건전한 자신감을 소유했습니다. 그 이유는 예수님이 자신 안에서 성령님을 통해 능력을 공급해 주신다는 것을 알았기 때문입니다. “내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라”(빌 4:13). 우리가 하나님께 속한 순간부터 성령님이 우리 안에 거하시게 됩니다. 성령님은 지속적으로 우리에게 능력을 공급해 주십니다. 또한 우리가 기도할 때 하나님의 능력은 우리 안에서 더욱 강렬하게 역사하게 됩니다. 인생은 능력의 문제입니다. 또한 누가 능력을 지속적으로 공급 받느냐의 문제입니다. 우리가 하나님께 소속될 때 하나님이 공급해 주시는 능력을 지속적으로 받을 수 있습니다. 인간의 능력은 한계가 있습니다. 하지만 하나님의 능력은 무한합니다. 하나님의 능력은 인간의 약함과 환경을 초월하는 능력입니다.

소속감에서 사명감이 나옵니다. 사명감은 우리가 살아야 하는 이유입니다. 인간은 하나님을 만날 때 진정한 사명을 깨닫게 됩니다. 또한 하나님은 소중한 만남을 통해 사명을 깨닫도록 도와주십니다. 좋은 스승과의 만남, 좋은 친구와의 만남, 좋은 공동체와의 만남, 좋은 책과의 만남을 통해 사명을 깨닫게 됩니다. 사명이란 우리가 존재하는 이유입니다. 하나님이 우리를 이 땅에 보내신 이유입니다. 쉽게 표현하면 우리가 감당해야 할 하나님의 심부름입니다. 하나님이 우리에게 맡기신 사명은 우리의 재능과 은사와 관련되어 있습니다. 우리의 고통과 축복과 관련되어 있습니다. 우리의 과거의 경험과 교육과도 관련되어 있습니다. 우리의 재능과 세상의 필요가 만나는 곳에 우리의 사명이 있습니다. 우리는 하나님이 맡기신 사명을 완수함으로 보람을 느낍니다. 삶의 의미를 느낍니다. 우리는 하나님께 소속된 사람들입니다. 그런 까닭에 우리의 마지막은 천국입니다. 지옥이 아닙니다. 소속의 중요성을 깨닫고 그리스도 안에서 승리하는 삶을 사시길 빕니다.

Wisdom of Realizing the Importance of Belonging

A healthy self-image is very important in life. Self-image is related to your own image. Everyone lives with an image. We are born in the image of God. A healthy self-image is closely related to our identity. Identity refers to who we are. When we were young, and when we were playing hide and seek, we used to tell each other to “show yourself”. Identity refers to one's own individuality. We live by our own identity. Therefore, it is very important to know what kind of identity you live with.

Four pillars are needed to establish a healthy self-image. It is the pillar of belonging, self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of mission. The most fundamental pillar is the pillar of belonging. The reason is that self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of mission come from a proper understanding of belonging.

Belonging is about to whom and where you belong to. Christians belong to God. They do not belong to the devil. They belong to heaven, and are not of this world (John 15:19). We live in the world, but we are not of the world. Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36). Judas Iscariot was a disciple of Jesus, but he did not belong to Jesus. So, despite his talent, he belonged to the devil and sold Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. He was with Jesus, but he did not learn well because he did not belong to Jesus. He eventually went towards the way he belonged to.

Because we belong to God, we are protected by Him. We receive God's supply. We get guidance from God. Christians also belong to the body of the Lord, the Church. Belonging to a church means you can receive the spiritual care it provides. It means you have the privilege of participating in all the educational programs the Church has to offer. It means being able to share joys and sorrows in the church community.

Self-esteem comes from a sense of belonging. Self-esteem is related to one’s values. Self-esteem is related to realizing how valuable you are. Self-esteem comes from realizing the truth; that we are worthy of God’s sacrificing His only begotten Son for us. When you realize that you are worthwhile, what you do and everything you serve becomes worthwhile. We don't waste time when we realize that we are worthwhile. We don't waste our life. We don't give ourselves up to sin and temptation. We take good care of ourselves when we realize that we are worthwhile. We will enjoy being educated and trained for our continued growth.

Confidence comes from a sense of belonging. Confidence is related to power. The apostle Paul possessed sound self-confidence. The reason is that he knew that Jesus was supplying him with his power through the Holy Spirit within him. “I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13). From the moment we belong to God, the Holy Spirit dwells in us. The Holy Spirit continually empowers us. Also, when we pray, the power of God works in us more intensely. Life is a matter of power. It's also a matter of who gets a constant supply of power. When we belong to God, we can continue to receive the power that God provides. Human abilities are limited. But God's power is limitless. The power of God is the ability to transcend human weakness and circumstances.

A sense of mission comes from a sense of belonging. A sense of mission is the reason we must live. When a man meets God, he realizes his true mission. Also, God helps us to realize our mission through precious encounters. We realize our mission through encounters with a good teacher, a good friend, a good community, and a good book. The mission is the reason we exist. This is why God sent us to this earth. To put it simply, it is God's errand that we must carry on. The mission that God has entrusted to us has to do with our talents and gifts. It has to do with our suffering and blessings. It is also related to our past experiences and education. Where our talents meet the needs of the world, is where our mission stands. We feel rewarded for fulfilling the mission God has entrusted to us. We feel the meaning of life. We belong to God. That is why our end is heaven. It's not hell. May you realize the importance of belonging and live a victorious life in Christ.
