[목회서신] 지금은 함께 기도할 때입니다 (2020.02.02)

중국 우한 폐렴 때문에 전 세계가 긴장하고 있습니다. 세계보건기구(WHO)가 우한 폐렴의 위험 정도를 중국 내의 “매우 높음”과 글로벌 수준에서 “높음”으로 표기했습니다. 제가 접한 정보로는 우한 폐렴의 바이러스는 재채기나 기침을 통해 다른 사람에게 감염된다고 합니다. 특별히 신종 코로나 바이러스는 손에 접촉된 후에 그 손으로 눈을 만지면 온 몸에 빠르게 퍼진다고 합니다. 그래서 비누로 손을 잘 씻고 가능한 손을, 눈과 코 그리고 입에 대지 말라고 권면하고 있습니다.

지금은 글로벌 시대입니다. 온 세계가 서로 연결되어 있습니다. 중국과 관련된 사업을 하는 분들이 많습니다. 중국에는 수많은 외국인들이 살고 있습니다. 수많은 한국인들과 미국인들이 머물면서 사업을 하고 있습니다. 중국의 문제는 중국 한 나라의 문제가 아닙니다. 중국의 문제는 모든 나라와 다양한 영역에 영향을 끼치고 있습니다. 그런 까닭에 우리는 우한 폐렴의 전염이 멈추고, 우한 폐렴 바이러스 치료제가 빨리 발견되고 개발되도록 기도해야 합니다.

우리는 중국인들의 안전을 위해 중보해야 합니다. 중국정부가 이번 사태를 잘 대처할 수 있도록 기도해야 합니다. 중국에는 수많은 그리스도인들이 있습니다. 중국에는 수많은 선교사님들이 있습니다. 우리는 그분들의 안전을 위해 기도해야 합니다. 중국 정부가 이번 어려움을 통해 지하교회를 핍박하고 예수님을 믿는 사람들을 박해하는 일을 멈추도록 기도해야 합니다. 중국이 예수 그리스도의 복음을 받아들이도록 중보해야 합니다.

우리는 중보 기도의 능력을 믿습니다. 저는 어릴 적에 교회에서 공산주의 나라 즉 철의 장막이 무너지길 위해 기도했던 것을 기억합니다. 기도할 당시만 해도 불가능하게 느껴졌던 공산주의 국가들이 문을 열었습니다. 중보기도가 응답된 것입니다. 그 문으로 수많은 선교사님들이 공산주의 국가에 들어가서 복음을 전했습니다. 서독과 동독이 하나가 되었습니다. 중국이 문을 열고, 소련이 문을 열었습니다. 캄보디아와 베트남이 문을 열었습니다. 이슬람 국가에 수많은 선교사님들이 들어가서 복음을 전하고 있습니다.

하나님은 고통을 통해 역사하십니다. 저는 이번 중국에 찾아온 고통이 하나님이 중국에 새롭게 개입하시는 기회가 되길 소원하고 있습니다. 전염병이 돌 때 가장 주의할 것은 두려움입니다. 세계 역사에 찾아 왔던 전염병들을 연구한 사람들이, 전염병보다 두려움으로 죽은 사람이 더 많다고 이야기를 합니다. 중국 우한 폐렴 소식을 들으면서 우리는 염려하지 않을 수 없습니다. 우리는 연약한 인간이기에 나쁜 소식을 들으면 염려하게 됩니다. 하지만 염려하거나 두려워함으로 문제를 해결할 수는 없습니다. 믿음으로 기도하고 잘 예방함으로 문제를 해결해야 합니다.

지난 주일에 슬픈 소식을 접했습니다. 우리는 슬픈 소식을 접하면 슬퍼하게 됩니다. 또한 기도하게 됩니다. 레이커스에서 활약했던 코비 브라이언트가 헬리콥터 사고로 사랑하는 딸과 함께 세상을 떠난 것입니다. 그를 사랑하는 수많은 사람들이 슬퍼하고 있습니다. 저는 농구에 열광하는 사람은 아니지만 레이커스의 코비를 많이 좋아했습니다. 그의 탁월함과 열정 그리고 진솔함을 좋아했습니다. 코비는 그의 실수를 솔직히 인정할 줄 알았습니다. 우리가 기억하는 것처럼 그는 한 때 결혼한 사람으로 범해서는 안 되는 잘못을 했습니다. 하지만 그는 자신의 잘못을 공개적으로 인정하고 회개했습니다. 그의 회개와 함께 그가 실수한 문제는 예상보다 잘 마무리 되었습니다. 저는 그의 완벽함보다는 그의 솔직함이 더욱 좋았습니다. 하나님이 코비의 아내와 남은 세 자녀를 위로해 주시고 돌보아 주시길 기도합니다.

우리는, 우리가 태어난 대한민국을 위해 중보 기도를 드려야 합니다. 어느 때보다 좌파와 우파로 나라가 나뉘어 심각한 갈등 속에 있습니다. 같은 가족들도 정치 문제와 이념 문제로 싸우고 있는 형편입니다. 우리 민족의 정치적 문제를 짧은 글 속에 자세히 담을 수는 없습니다. 하지만 우리 모두는 문제의 심각성을 알고 있습니다. 우리 민족을 위한 하나님의 도움이 어느 때보다 필요합니다. 하나님이 다시 한 번 우리 민족과 한국 교회를 불쌍히 여겨 주시길 기도해야 합니다. 우리 민족이 하나님의 복음 안에서 하나 되기를 기도해야 합니다.

하나님은 우리 민족이 위기에 처할 때마다 큰 도움으로 함께 해 주셨습니다. 저는 하나님의 절대 주권과 절대 섭리를 믿습니다. 우리가 하나님의 절대 주권과 절대 섭리를 믿는다는 것이 무책임하게 살아도 된다는 것을 의미하지 않습니다. 우리는 하나님께 중보 기도를 드리며, 우리가 할 수 있는 일에 최선을 다해야 합니다. 또한 미국에 살고 있는 교포들은 미국을 위해 기도해야 합니다. 하나님이 미국을 긍휼히 여기셔서 계속해서 선한 영향력을 끼치도록 기도해야 합니다. 지금은 우리가 함께 기도해야 할 때입니다. 이 글을 읽으시는 모든 분들이 중보 기도에 함께 동참해 주시길 부탁드립니다.

Now is the Time to Pray Together

The whole world is nervous because of the pneumonia outbreak from China, in the city of Wuhan. The World Health Organization (WHO) assessed the risk of Wuhan pneumonia as “very high” at the regional level in China and “high” at the global level. According to the information that I know, the virus of Wuhan pneumonia can be infected by another person by sneezing or coughing. In particular, the new corona virus is said to spread quickly throughout our body when we touch our eyes with our hands after coming into contact with the virus. So, they recommend that we must wash our hands with soap well and try not to put our hands on our eyes, nose, and mouth.

Now is the global age. The whole world is connected to each other. Many people do business relating to China. Many foreigners live in China. Many Koreans and Americans stay and do business in China. The problem of China is not only for the country of China. China's problems are affecting all countries in various areas. Therefore, we must pray that the infection of Wuhan pneumonia stops, and that Wuhan pneumonia virus antidote will be discovered and developed quickly.

We must intercede for the safety of Chinese people. Pray for the Chinese government to deal with this situation well. There are many Christians in China. There are many missionaries in China. We must pray for their safety. We must pray for the Chinese government to stop persecuting underground churches and those who believe in Jesus through this difficulty. We must intercede for China to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We believe in the power of intercessory prayer. When I was young, I remember that we prayed for the fall of the communist nations, also known as the Iron Curtain. Then the communist nations opened their doors, which seemed impossible at the time of prayer. Our intercessory prayer was answered. Many missionaries entered the communist nations through their open doors and preached the gospel. West Germany and East Germany have become one. China and the Soviet Union have opened their doors. Cambodia and Vietnam also have opened their doors. Thousands of missionaries are entering the Muslim countries and preaching the gospel there.

God works through suffering. I hope that the suffering that came to China will become a new opportunity for God to intervene in China. The most important thing to be careful when a plague is spreading is fear. Those who studied the plagues, that have visited the world in history, say that more people die of fear than the plagues itself. We cannot help but worry as we hear the news of Chinese Wuhan pneumonia. Because we are weak human beings, we are concerned when we hear bad news. But we can't solve a problem with anxiety or fear. We must solve our problems by praying in faith and by taking precautions.

We heard sad news last week. We feel sad when we hear sad news. The news also makes us pray. Kobe Bryant, who played for the Lakers, passed away with his beloved daughter in a helicopter crash. Thousands of people who loved him are sad. I'm not a big fan of basketball, but I liked Kobe a lot. I loved his excellence, passion, and sincerity. Kobe honestly recognized his mistake. As we remember, he made a mistake that he should have not commit as a married man. But he publicly admitted his wrongdoing and repented. His mistake with his repentance was resolved better than expected. I liked his honesty more than his perfection. May God comfort and care for Kobe's wife and his remaining three children.

We must offer intercessory prayer for the Republic of Korea where we were born. More than ever, the country is divided into the left and the right and is in serious conflict. Even in a single household they are fighting over political and ideological issues. I cannot put our nation's political problems in a short article. But we all know the seriousness of the problem well. We need God’s help for our people more than ever. We must pray that God would have mercy on our people and the Korean church once again. We must pray for our people to be one in the gospel of God.

God has been with us with great help whenever our people were in crisis. I believe in God's absolute sovereignty and providence. Just because we believe in God's absolute sovereignty and absolute providence does not mean that we can live irresponsibly. We must intercede to God and do our best in what we can do. Also, Korean Immigrants in the United States should pray for the United States. We must pray for God to have mercy on America so that it can continue to have good influence. Now is the time for us to pray together. I ask all who read this article to join in intercessory prayer.
