[목회서신] 기다리는 시간을 낭비하지 않는 지혜 (2020.03.22)

지금은 기다림의 때입니다. 학교도 잠시 문을 닫았습니다. 술집도 카지노도 문을 닫았습니다. 대학 졸업식을 취소하는 학교가 생겼습니다. 로스앤젤레스는 가세티 시장의 요청에 따라 50명 이상 모이는 모든 모임은 취소되고 연기 되었습니다. 교회도 모든 모임을 잠시 멈추고 온라인으로 예배를 드리고 있습니다. 모든 것이 정지된 것 같은 느낌입니다. 우리는 코로나 바이러스라는 폭풍이 지나가기를 기다리는 중에 있습니다. 폭풍이 찾아오면 폭풍이 지나가기를 기다려야 합니다. 기다림의 때에 필요한 것이 지혜입니다.

기다림의 때에 두려워하지 말고 하나님을 의지하십시오. 나라마다 비상사태를 선언하는 때에 두려워하지 않고 염려하지 않을 수 없습니다. 하지만 두려움과 염려는 아무 도움을 주지 못합니다. 두려움과 염려가 좋지 않은 것은 우리 생각을 혼미케 만들기 때문입니다. 그리스도인은 깊이 생각할 줄 알아야 합니다. 하나님의 지혜는 깊이 생각하는 지혜입니다. 우리는 깊이 생각하는 중에 분별력을 얻게 됩니다. 가장 위험한 것은 두려움에 사로잡히는 것입니다. 어떤 날은 우리에게 특별히 더 두려운 날이 있습니다. 다윗도 그런 경험을 했습니다. 그는 두려운 날에 하나님을 더욱 의지했습니다. “내가 두려워하는 날에는 내가 주를 의지하리이다”(시 56:3).

기다림의 때에 지나친 낙관주의를 삼가고 신중하게 행동하십시오. 하나님의 지혜는 신중함에 있습니다. 예수님을 믿는다는 것이 모든 문제나 질병으로부터 자유롭게 된다는 것을 의미하지 않습니다. 예수님을 믿으면 예수님의 대속의 은혜로 죄사함을 받게 됩니다. 예수님이 우리 죄를 대신 담당하심으로 죄의 심판으로부터 자유케 됩니다. 우리는 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 생명의 성령의 법을 통해 죄와 사망의 법에서 자유케 되었습니다(롬 8:2). 하지만 인생의 문제나 고난으로부터 자유케 된 것은 아닙니다. 바이러스로부터 자유케 된 것은 아닙니다. 인간관계의 갈등으로부터 자유케 된 것은 아닙니다. 인생의 문제들은 인정하고 대면하고 극복해야 합니다.

기다림의 때에 조급함을 삼가고 소망 중에 인내하십시오. 예수님을 믿는다는 것은 하나님의 지혜를 따라 신중하게 산다는 것을 의미합니다. 하나님은 지식과 지혜의 하나님이십니다(롬 11:33). 기다림의 때에 조급한 마음을 품어서는 안 됩니다. 코로나 바이러스의 문제가 빨리 해결되기를 바라지만, 우리 기대보다 시간이 더 걸릴 수 있다는 사실을 인정해야 합니다. 조급함을 삼가십시오. 조급하면 초조해 집니다. 초조해 지면 어리석은 선택을 하게 됩니다. 조급하면 좌절하게 됩니다. 우리는 조급한 상황일수록 조금 느긋한 마음 자세를 취할 필요가 있습니다.

지혜로운 사람은 문제가 가능한 빨리 해결되길 바라지만, 생각보다 시간이 더 걸릴 수 있다는 사실도 압니다. 그래서 더욱 신중하게 마음의 준비를 합니다. 물론 코로나 바이러스의 문제가 영원히 우리를 괴롭힐 수는 없습니다. 자연의 사계절처럼 모든 바이러스에는 주기가 있습니다. 모든 생물은 주기가 있습니다. 하나님과 하나님의 말씀 그리고 인간의 영혼 외에는 어떤 것도 영원하지 않습니다. 반드시 때가 되면 코로나 바이러스 문제는 해결될 것입니다. 하지만 몇 주일 안에 해결될 것이라는 지나친 낙관주의는 성경적이지도 않고 상식적이지도 않습니다.

기다림의 때에 미래의 변화를 예측하면서 조용히 준비하십시오. 코로나 바이러스 사태가 어느 정도 마무리 되면 많은 변화가 있을 것입니다. 그동안 어른들은 온라인 예배 경험이 별로 없었습니다. 또한 온라인으로 헌금을 드리는 경험도 거의 없었습니다. 하지만 이번에 어른들도 영상으로 예배드리는 새로운 경험을 하게 되었습니다. 저는 이번 사태 이후에 어떤 변화가 찾아올지 정확하게 알지 못합니다. 하지만 분명히 새로운 변화가 있을 것을 예측하고 있습니다. 교회만이 아니라 사업하는 분들이나 직장에 다니는 분들에게도 많은 변화가 있을 것입니다.

기다림의 때에 기도하면서 하나님의 지혜를 구하십시오. 장차 찾아오게 될 변화를 예측하고 대비할 수 있는 지혜를 달라고 기도하십시오. 기다림의 시간을 낭비하지 마십시오. 요셉은 기다림의 시간에 미래를 준비했습니다. 애굽의 언어와 문화와 정치를 배우고 장차 다가올 미래를 준비했습니다. 지금은 위기의 때입니다. 변화의 때입니다. 위기를 기회로 맞이하기 위해서는 기다림의 때에 준비를 잘해야 합니다. 다가올 변화를 예측해 주는 전문가들의 말에 귀를 기울이십시오. 다가올 변화에 무엇을 준비하면 좋을지 알려 주는 분들의 말에 귀를 기울이십시오. 무엇보다 자신의 건강을 지키십시오. 자신의 건강을 지키는 것은 결코 이기적인 것이 아닙니다. 자신의 건강을 지키는 것이 곧 가족, 교회 공동체, 커뮤니티와 각 나라의 건강을 지키는 것입니다. 또한 코로나 바이러스의 확산을 막는 일에 기여하는 것입니다. 기다림의 때에 하나님의 지혜로 승리하시길 빕니다.

The Wisdom of Not Wasting Time in Waiting

Now is the time to wait. School is now closed for a while. Bars and casinos are also closed. Some universities cancelled their graduation ceremonies. In Los Angeles, all meetings with more than 50 people are canceled and postponed at the request of Mayor Garcetti. Churches also paused all meetings and moved their worships to online. It feels like everything has stopped. We are waiting for the storm of the coronavirus to pass by. When the storm comes, we must wait for the storm to pass by. What is needed in times of waiting is wisdom.

In times of waiting, do not be afraid and rely on God. We cannot help but be afraid and worry when nations declare a state of emergency. But fear and anxiety can do nothing. Fear and anxiety aren't good because they make our thinking confused. Christians need to think deeply. God's wisdom is in thinking deeply. We gain discernment as we ponder. The most dangerous thing is to be captivated by fear. There are some days when we are more fearful. David also had that experience. And on a fearful day, he relied more on God. “When I am afraid, I will trust in you” (Psalm 56:3).

In times of waiting, avoid being overly optimistic and act prudently. God's wisdom lies in prudence. Believing in Jesus doesn't mean being free from all problems and diseases. If you believe in Jesus, you will be forgiven by the atoning grace of Jesus. We are free from the judgment of sin because Jesus bore our sins. We are set free from the law of sin and death through the law of the Spirit of life (Romans 8:2). However, we are not set free from life’s problem or suffering. We are not free from viruses. We are not free from the conflict of human relationship. Life's problems must be acknowledged, faced, and overcome.

In times of waiting, refrain from being impatient and endure in hope. Believing in Jesus means living carefully according to God's wisdom. God is the God of knowledge and wisdom (Romans 11:33). You should not be hasty in times of waiting. We want the problem of the coronavirus to be resolved quickly, but we have to admit that it may take longer than we expect. Try not to be impatient. If you are impatient, you will become nervous. If you are nervous, you will make a foolish choice. If you are impatient, you will be frustrated. The more impetuous circumstances we are in, the more relaxed we need to be.

The wise wants the problem to be solved as soon as possible, but he knows it can take longer than he thinks. So we need to prepare our hearts more carefully. Of course, the problem of the coronavirus can't bother us forever. Like all four seasons in nature, every virus has a cycle. Every creature has a cycle. Nothing is eternal except God, the Word of God, and the human soul. The coronavirus problem will be surely solved when the time comes. But the excessive optimism that believes it will be resolved in a few weeks is neither biblical nor common sense.

In times of waiting, be prepared quietly while predicting future changes. There will be many changes once the coronavirus outbreak is over. Until now, adults have had very little online worship experience. They also had little experience giving offerings online. However, through this time, adults also have a new experience of worshiping through videos. I don't know exactly what will happen after this outbreak. But I am sure that there will be a new change. There will be many changes not only for the church but also for businessmen or employees.

In times of waiting, ask for God’s wisdom while praying. Pray for the wisdom to anticipate and prepare for the changes that will come in the future. Don't waste your time in waiting. In order to face a crisis as an opportunity, we need to prepare well in times of waiting. Listen to what experts say to predict the coming change.
