[목회서신] 위기의 때에 기본에 충실하는 것이 지혜입니다! (2020.03.29)

위기의 순간일수록 침착해야 합니다. 위기의 때에 가장 위험한 것은 조급한 마음을 품는 것입니다. 사람은 조급하면 초조해 집니다. 초조해지면 불안해집니다. 이유도 모르는 불안감 속에 사로잡히게 됩니다. 초조하게 되면 무리수를 쓰게 됩니다. 상식적이지 않은 생각과 행동을 하게 됩니다. 그런 과정에서 위기는 증폭됩니다. 위기를 위대한 기회로 만드는 사람은 조급하지 않습니다. 조용히 깊이 생각합니다. 철저하게 기본으로 돌아갑니다. 기본에 충실합니다. 탁월한 리더의 특징은 언제나 기본을 다집니다. 사람들을 기본에 충실하도록 인도합니다. 그렇다면 기본에 충실하다는 것은 무엇을 의미하는 것일까요?

첫째, 하나님을 의지하는 것이 기본에 충실한 삶입니다. 하나님을 의지하는 것이 기본 중의 기본입니다. 하나님은 근본이십니다(골 1:18). 모든 만물의 근원이십니다(히 2:11). 하나님은 생수의 근원이십니다(렘 17:13). 하나님은 모든 만물을 만드시고, 모든 만물을 아십니다. 하나님은 인간을 만드시고 인간을 아십니다. 모든 문제의 해결책을 가지고 계십니다.

위기가 찾아왔을 때 우리가 해야 할 가장 소중한 일은 하나님 앞으로 나아가는 것입니다. 악한 길에서 떠나 하나님께 돌아가는 것입니다. 죄를 회개하는 것입니다. 겸손히 하나님 앞에 무릎을 꿇는 것입니다. 하나님의 얼굴을 구하는 것입니다(대하 7:14). 다니엘은 죽음의 위기에 처했을 때 사람을 찾아가지 않았습니다. 그는 전에 행하던 대로 하루 세 번씩 무릎을 꿇고 기도하며 그의 하나님께 감사를 드렸습니다(단 6:10). 기도가 기본입니다. 우리가 무릎을 꿇으면 하나님이 우리를 위해 일을 시작하십니다. 하나님이 개입하시면 위기는 기회로 반전됩니다.

둘째, 말씀에 순종하는 것이 기본에 충실한 삶입니다. 하나님을 의지한다는 것은 하나님의 말씀을 의지한다는 것입니다. 말씀에 순종하는 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀은 지혜의 원천입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 읽게 되면 지혜를 얻게 됩니다. 우리는 하나님의 말씀 속에서 위기를 위대한 기회로 만든 사람들을 만나게 됩니다. 우리는 문제를 너무 극대화하는 경향이 있습니다. 때로는 문제를 너무 극소화하는 경우도 있습니다. 지혜란 문제를 극대화하거나 극소화하지 않고 있는 그대로 보는 것입니다. 코비드-19는 전염병입니다. 어떤 의미에서 재앙입니다. 이런 전염병과 재앙은 옛날에도 있었습니다. 우리는 이 문제를 극대화해서는 안 됩니다. 그렇게 되면 두려움과 염려에 사로잡히게 됩니다. 하나님이 해결할 수 없을 만큼 큰 문제는 없습니다. 그렇다고 우리가 직면하고 있는 문제를 극소화해서도 안 됩니다. 때로는 작은 문제가 큰 문제로 발전할 수 있기 때문입니다. 지혜란 신중함에 있습니다. 문제를 두려워하지는 않지만 신중하게 접근하는 것입니다.

셋째, 기본 규칙을 잘 지키는 것이 기본에 충실한 삶입니다. 코비드-19로부터 우리 자신과 가족과 공동체와 인류를 지키는 가장 중요한 길은 기본 규칙을 잘 지키는 것입니다. 기본 규칙이란 손을 자주 씻는 것입니다. 하루에 8번 이상 비누에 20초 이상 깨끗하게 손을 씻는 것입니다. 손으로 눈과 코와 입을 만지지 않는 것입니다. 스마트폰을 정기적으로 세정제로 잘 닦아 주는 것입니다. 사람들과 어느 정도 거리를 유지하는 것입니다. 몸에 좋지 않은 증상이 있으면 즉각 전문 의료기관에 알려 도움을 받는 것입니다. 또한 확진자와 접촉한 일이 생기면 14일 동안 자가 격리에 들어가는 것입니다.

믿음으로 산다는 것이 상식을 무시하면서 산다는 것이 아닙니다. 하나님의 지혜는 상식 속에 깃들어 있습니다. 상식이란 우리가 살아가는 기본 원칙입니다. 원칙은 지키라고 만든 것입니다. 교통 법규와 같은 것입니다. 보통 때에는 교통 법규를 조금 어겨도 큰 문제가 안 되는 것처럼 느껴집니다. 하지만 교통사고가 나면 교통 법규를 지키지 않은 것 때문에 자신뿐만 아니라 다른 사람의 생명까지 위태롭게 만들 수 있습니다. 우리가 원칙을 깨면, 원칙이 우리를 깨뜨릴 수 있습니다. 우리가 법을 존중하면 법이 우리를 존중해 줍니다. 우리를 보호해 줍니다.

기본 규칙을 잘 지킨다는 것은 작은 것에 충실한 삶을 사는 것입니다. 코비드-19는 아주 작습니다. 작기 때문에 생존력이 강합니다. 전파력이 강합니다. 전 세계를 향해 퍼져 나가고 있습니다. 코비드-19의 생존력과 전파력으로부터 우리가 역으로 배워야 합니다. 우리가 코비드-19를 이겨내기 위해서는 더욱 작은 것에 세심해야 합니다. 우리는 장차 직면할 수 있는 경제적인 어려움에 대비해서 몸집을 줄여야 합니다. 몸집이 작을수록 생존력과 적응력을 잘 발휘할 수 있습니다. 작은 규칙을 잘 지키는 것을 소홀히 해서는 안 됩니다. 또한 귀찮아하거나 부끄러워해서도 안 됩니다. 하나님은 작은 것 속에 비밀을 담아 두셨습니다. 작게 느껴지는 기본에 충실함으로 위기를 기회로 만드시길 바랍니다.

It Is Wise to Be Faithful to the Basics, in Times of Difficulty

We must be calm in a moment of crisis. The most dangerous thing in times of crisis is to have an impatient heart. When people are impatient, they become nervous. When they are nervous, they become anxious. They get caught up in their anxieties that they don't know why they have. If they get nervous and they go beyond what’s needed. They think and act in ways of nonsense. In that process, the crisis gets amplified. People who make a crisis into a great opportunity are not impatient. They think quietly and deeply. Thoroughly, they go back to the basics. They are faithful to their basics. The characteristic of an excellent leader is in always laying the foundation of basics. They lead people to be faithful to the basics. So what does it mean to be faithful to the basics?

First, relying on God is being faithful to the basics. Relying on God is the basic of the basics. God is the beginning (Colossians 1:18). He is the source of all things (Hebrews 2:11). God is the spring of living water (Jeremiah 17:13). God makes all things and knows all things. God makes man and knows man. He has a solution to every problem.

When a crisis comes, the most important thing we should do is to go before God. It is to turn from our wicked way and return to God. It is to repent of our sin. It is to humbly kneel before God. It is to seek God's face (2 Chronicles 7:14). Daniel wasn't looking for a man when he was on the brink of death. He knelt and prayed three times a day as he had done before, thanking his God (Daniel 6:10). Prayer is a basic. When we kneel, God starts working for us. When God intervenes, the crisis is turned into an opportunity.

Second, obeying the Word is being faithful to the basics. Relying on God means relying on His Word. It is to obey the Word. The Word of God is the source of wisdom. When you read the Word of God, you will gain wisdom. In God's Word, we meet people who have turned a crisis into a great opportunity. We tend to overly amplify the problem. Sometimes we tend to dismiss the problem, too. Wisdom is seeing things as they are, without amplifying or dismissing the problems. COVID-19 is an epidemic. In a sense, it is a catastrophe. These epidemics and plagues have existed long ago. We should not amplify this problem. If we do, we will be caught in fear and anxiety. There is no problem that God cannot solve. However, we should not dismiss the problems we face either. Sometimes small problems can develop into big ones. Wisdom is in prudence. It is not to be afraid, and yet to approach it carefully.

Third, keeping the basic rules is being faithful to the basics. The most important way to protect ourselves, our families, our communities, and humanity from COVID-19 is to follow the basic rules. The basic rule is to wash your hands often. It is to wash your hands clean with soap for at least 8 times a day for at least 20 seconds. It is not to touch your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands. It is to wipe your smartphone regularly with a sanitizer wipes. It is to keep some distance from people. It is to get help from a specialized medical institute if you have any unpleasant symptom. In addition, it is to be in quarantine for 14 days if contact with a confirmed person was confirmed.

Living by faith is not about ignoring common sense. God's wisdom is embedded in common sense. Common sense is the basic principle in which we live. The principle is made to be observed. It's like traffic laws. Normally, it doesn't seem like a big deal if you break traffic rules a little bit. However, in the event of a traffic accident, you can endanger not only yourself, but also the lives of others because of your failure to follow traffic laws. If we defy a principle, it can break us. If we honor the law, the law honors us. It protects us.

Keeping the basic rules well means being faithful to the small things. COVID-19 is very small. Because it is small, it has a strong viability. It is very contagious. It is spreading all over the world. We must learn reversely from COVID-19's survival and propagation power. In order for us to overcome COVID-19, we need to be much careful with small things. We need to downsize in preparation for the economic challenges that we may face in the future. The smaller you are, the better your survival and adaptability. Don't neglect to keep small rules. Also, don’t consider them bothering or shame. God kept secrets in small things. I hope that you would turn this crisis into an opportunity by sticking to the basics that seem little.
