[목회서신] 영적 각성(覺醒)의 은혜 | The Grace of Spiritual Awakening (2020.10.11)

우리가 사모해야 할 은혜는 각성(覺醒)의 은혜입니다. 각성은 깨달음입니다. 각성이란 단어를 사전은 “눈을 떠서 정신을 차림, 깨달아 정신을 바로 차림, 자기의 잘못을 깨달음”으로 정의해 줍니다. 각성(覺醒)은 “깨달을” 각(覺)과 “깰” 성(醒)의 합성어입니다. 각성은 깨달음 이며, 깨어남입니다. 깨어남으로 깨달을 수 있고, 깨달은 자만이 다른 사람을 깨우칠 수 있습니다. 성경은 깨달음의 은혜를 아주 소중히 여깁니다. 그 이유는 깨닫지 못하는 사람은 짐승과 같기 때문입니다. “존귀하나 깨닫지 못하는 사람은 멸망하는 짐승 같도다”(시 49:20). 또한 깨닫지 못하면 망합니다. “깨닫지 못하는 백성은 망하리라”(호 4:14하). 깨닫지 못하면 돌이킬 수 없고, 고침 받지 못합니다(마 13:15). 치유는 깨달음에서 옵니다. 깨닫는 순간 치유가 시작됩니다. 깨달을 때 풍성한 열매를 맺게 됩니다(마 13:23). 그러므로 우리는 깨달음의 은혜를 사모해야 합니다. 안병욱교수님은 깨달음의 중요성을 강조한 분입니다. 각(覺)은 깨달을 각(覺)자다. 각(覺)은 사물의 이치를 깊이 환하게 깨닫는 것이요, 각성(覺醒)하는 것이다. 각(覺)자는 배울 학(學)자와 볼 견(見)자가 합해진 글자다. 많이 배우고 많이 보아야 바로 깨달을 수 있다. 스스로 깨닫는 것이 자각(自覺)이요, 먼저 깨닫는 것이 선각(先覺)이요, ... 바로 깨닫는 것이 정각(正覺)이요, ... 크게 깨닫는 것이 대각(大覺)이다. (안병욱, 『나를 위한 인생 12장』, 자유문학사, 71쪽) 저는 깨달음을 갈망하며 삽니다. 저의 기도 중의 하나는 이사야 50장 4절입니다. “주 여호와께서 학자의 혀를 내게 주사 나로 곤핍한 자를 말로 어떻게 도와 줄줄을 알게 하시고 아침마다 깨우치시되 나의 귀를 깨우치사 학자 같이 알아듣게 하시도다”(사 50:4, 개역한글). 제가 어려움에 처한 분들을 도와드리기 위해서 는 제가 먼저 깨달아야 합니다. 그래서 저는 날마다 깨달음의 은혜를 간구합니다. 제가 경험한 깨달음의 은혜를 몇 가지로 나누고 싶습니다. 첫째, 깨달음은 열림입니다. 깨닫게 되면 눈이 열립니다. 이전에 보지 못했던 것을 보게 되고, 듣지 못했던 것을 듣게 됩니다. 이전에 보고도 깨닫지 못하던 것을 깨닫게 됩니다. 깨달을 때 과거의 사건들이 새롭게 태어납니다. 모든 사건이 하나님의 섭리 속에서 연결되는 것을 깨닫게 됩니다. 그 순간 과거가 하나님의섭리 속에서 새롭게 해석됩니다. 열림은 축복입니다. 깨달음이 열리는 순간, 새로운 길이 열립니다. 우리 인생이 새롭게 열립니다. 둘째, 깨달음은 분별력입니다. 분별을 잘해야 선택을 잘합니다. 우리 인생의 비극은 잘못된 선택에서 시작됩니다. 올바른 선택을 위해서는 분별력이 탁월해야 합니다. 또한 잘못된 선택을 했을 때 자신의 잘못된 선택을 깨닫고 돌이킬 줄 아는 것이 지혜입니다. 셋째, 깨달음은 통찰력입니다. 통찰력은 “아래로부터 보다”라는 뜻입니다. 곧 근원을 살피는 것입니다. 통찰이란 문제의 원인을 살피고, 해결책의 근본을 찾아내는 것입니다. 깨닫게 되면 눈이 열려 문제의 근본을파악하게 됩니다. 깨닫게 되면 문제를 해결하는 정도가 아니라 문제를 통해 새로운 기회를 만들어냅니다. 영적 통찰은 하나님의 시선으로 문제를 바라보는 것을 의미합니다. 넷째, 깨달음은 경이로움입니다. 경이로움이란 하나님을 만나는 순간에 경험하는 놀라움과 경탄과 기쁨입니다. 깨달음이 임하면 일상의 모든 것이 기적으로 느껴집니다. 일상 속에서 하나님의 임재를 경험하게 됩니다. 야곱이 삼촌 라반의 집으로 가는 중에 광야에서 잠을 자다가 꿈을 꾸게 됩니다. 광야에서 하나님을만납니다. 하나님의 음성을 듣습니다. 그 순간, 그는 경이로움에 사로잡히게 됩니다. 영적 각성을 경험하게됩니다. 그가 머무는 곳이 거룩한 성소임을 깨닫습니다. 야곱은 하나님 앞에 단을 쌓고 경배를 드립니다. 그곳 이름을 벧엘, “하나님의 집”이라고 부릅니다. 다섯째, 깨달음은 새로운 차원으로 들어가는 경험입니다. 깨달음은 “차원 이동”입니다. 육적 차원에서 영적 차원으로 이동하는 것입니다. 3차원에서 4차원으로 이동하는 것입니다. 4차원에서 하나님의 차원으로 이동하는 것입니다. 칼의 차원과 총의 차원이 다릅니다. 총의 차원과 미사일의 차원과 원자폭탄의 차원이 다릅니다. 마차, 자전거, 자동차, 배, 비행기, 그리고 우주선의 차원이 다릅니다. 영적 각성을 경험하게 되면 이전 차원으로 돌아가지 않습니다. 새로운 차원으로 들어가서 새로운 결과를 만들어냅니다. 영적 각성(spiritual awakening)을 위해서는 성령님의 조명(illumination)하심이 있어야 합니다. 성령님이 도와주실 때 우리는 깨달음을 얻게 됩니다. 또한 각성(awakening)을 경험하게 됩니다. 지금처럼 힘들 때 우리에게 필요한 것은 영적 각성입니다. 하나님이 우리에게 영적 각성의 은혜를 베풀어 주시길 기도드립니다.

The Grace of Spiritual Awakening

The grace that we must long for is the grace of awakening (覺醒). An awakening is an understanding. The word “awakening” is defined in the dictionary as, "an act of opening your eyes to wake up, an act of becoming aware to wake up, and as an act of realizing one’s faults." If you look at the Chinese characters that make up the word awakening (覺醒), it is a compound word of the characters “覺” (to enlighten) and “醒” (to awake). Awakening is enlightenment and waking up. You can gain understanding through waking up, and only those who understand can enlighten others.

The Bible cherishes the grace of understanding very much. The reason being that those who do not understand are like beasts. “People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish” (Psalm 49:20). Also, if you don't come to understand, you will come to ruin. “A people without understanding will come to ruin!” (Hosea 4:14b). Without understanding, you cannot turn back and you cannot be healed (Matthew 13:15). Healing comes from understanding. The moment you understand, healing begins. When we understand, we will bear abundant fruit (Matthew 13:23). Therefore, we must yearn for the grace of understanding. Professor Ahn, Byung-wook emphasized the importance of understanding.

“Kak”(覺) is a Chinese character for understanding. “Kak”(覺) is a deep and bright understanding of the reasoning of things. The character “Kak” (覺) is a combination of the two characters, “to study” (學) and “to see” (見). You must learn and see a lot, to understand correctly. To understand on your own is called self-awareness(自覺), and to understand first is called pre-awareness(先覺). ... to understand correctly is right-awareness(正覺) ... to understand greatly is great-awareness(大覺). I live, longing for understanding. One of the prayers I pray is Isaiah 50:4. “The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught” (Isaiah 50:4). In order for me to help those in need, I must first gain understanding. So I pray for the grace of understanding every day. I would like to share few of the grace of understandings that I have experienced.

First, understanding is an act of opening. When you understand, your eyes are opened. You see what you haven't seen before, and you hear what you haven't heard. What you have seen before and not understood before, now you are able to understand. When you understand, the things of the past are newly born. You will realize that all things are connected in God's providence. At that moment, the past is reinterpreted in God's providence. An act of opening is a blessing. The moment understanding is opened, a new path opens. Our life opens anew.

Second, understanding is discernment. Good discernment makes good choices. The tragedy of our life begins with wrong choices. We must be excellent in discernment to make the right choice. Also, it is wisdom to realize your wrong choices and know how to turn them around into right choices.

Third, understanding is insight. Insight means “to see from below”. It is to look at the source. Insight is looking at the cause of a problem and finding the root of its solution. When you gain understanding, your eyes will be opened to grasp the root of the problem. When you understand, you will not only solve the problem, but also create new opportunities through the problem. Spiritual insight means looking at a problem through God's eyes.

Fourth, understanding is wonder. Wonder is the surprise, admiration, and joy that you experience at the moment you meet God. When understanding comes, everything in daily life feels like a miracle. You experience God's presence in your daily life. Jacob dreamt while sleeping in the wilderness on his way to his uncle Laban's house. He met God in the wilderness. He heard God's voice. At that moment, he was captured by wonder. He experienced spiritual awakening. He realized that the place where he was staying was a holy sanctuary. Jacob built an altar before God and worshiped him. He called the place Bethel, “the House of God”.

Fifth, understanding is an experience that brings you into a new dimension. Understanding is “dimensional movement”. It is to move from the physical dimension to the spiritual dimension. It is to move from the third dimension to the fourth dimension. It is to move from the fourth dimension to the dimension of God. The dimensions of the sword and that of the gun are different. The dimensions of the gun, the missile, and the atomic bomb are different. Wagons, bicycles, cars, ships, planes, and spaceships have different dimensions. When you experience spiritual awakening, you do not go back to the previous dimension. It takes you to a new dimension and produces new results. For spiritual awakening, there must be the illumination of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit helps us, we gain understanding. We will also experience awakening. What we need in a difficult time like now is spiritual awakening. I pray that God will give you the grace of spiritual awakening.
