[목회서신] 깨달음의 즐거움 | The Joy of Enlightenment (2020.10.18)

제가 누리는 즐거움은 깨달음의 즐거움입니다. 깨달음의 즐거움은 “아 하!”의 즐거움입니다. 우리는, 고민하던 문제가 해결될 때 “아 하!”의 탄성을 외칩니다. 사실 깨달음은 어떤 문제가 구체적으로 해결 되었다기보다는 문제를 바라보는 관점이 바뀐 것을 의미합니다. 어떤 문제 속에 담긴 의미를 깨달은 것입니다. 그때 치유가 일어나고 기쁨이 충만해 집니다. 저는 목회 초기에 문제를 싫어했습니다. 문제가 생기면 골치가 아팠습니다. 그래서 문제가 오거나 문제를 일으키는 사람을 만나면 가슴이 뛰고 두려웠습니다. 그런데 어느 날 깨달음이 임했습니다. 문제가 변장된 축복이라는 사실을 깨달은 것입니다. 문제 속에 기적이 담겨 있다는 것을 깨달은 것입니다. 어느 날 기적에 대한 말씀을 준비하는 중에 성경의 기적은 모두 문제 때문에 생긴 것을 깨달았습니다. 홍해가 갈라지는 기적은 이스라엘 민족의 앞길을 막고 있었던 홍해 문제 때문에 생긴 것입니다. 나혼인잔치의 기적도 잔칫집에 포도주가 떨어진 문제 때문에 생긴 것입니다. 오병이어의 기적도 수많은 사람들을 먹여야 하는데 먹을 것이 없는 문제 때문에 생긴 것입니다. 죽은 나사로가 다시 살아난 기적도 그가 병들어 죽은 문제 때문에 생긴 것입니다. 역설적이지만 문제가 없으면 기적도 없습니다. 문제가 작으면 기적이 작고, 문제가 크면 기적도 큽니다.그 순간 저는 문제가 기적을 창조하는 재료가 된다는 사실을 깨달았습니다. 그 순간 놀라운 기쁨이 제게 임했습니다. 그 날 이후로 문제가 찾아오면 오히려 환영하고 감사하게 되었습니다. 문제가 문제를 일으키려고 왔다가 자신을 환영해 주니 당황하는 것을 보았습니다. 물론 모든 문제가 기적이 된 것은 아니었습니다. 기도를 통해 직면한 문제를 하나님께 맡길 때 하나님이 그 문제를 기적으로 바꾸어 주신 것입니다. 깨달음의 즐거움은 깨어짐의 아픔을 통해 임합니다. 깨닫기 위해서는 자극이 필요합니다. 그 자극은 깨어지는 자극입니다. 우리는 깨달음은 좋아해도 깨어짐은 싫어합니다. 하지만 깨어짐 속에 하나님의 비밀이 담겨 있습니다. 모든 생명은 깨어짐을 통해 태어납니다. 헤르만 헤세는 그의 책 데미안에서 말합니다. “새는 알에서 나오려고 투쟁한다. 알은 하나의 세계다. 태어나려는 자는 하나의 세계를 깨뜨려야 한다.” 암탁이 계란을 품은 지 21일이 되면 계란에서 병아리가 태어납니다. 병아리가 태어나기 위해서는 계란의 껍질을 깨뜨려야 합니다. 엄마의 자궁 안에 잉태된 아이가 태어나기 위해서는 엄마의 자궁이 깨어지는 과정을 거쳐야 합니다. 깨어짐이 없는 태어남은 없습니다. 깨어짐을 통해 태어난 아이를 엄마의 가슴에 안겨줄때 엄마는 기뻐합니다. 즐거워합니다. 아빠도 즐거워하고, 할아버지와 할머니도 즐거워합니다. 즐거움은 깨어짐을 통해 임하는 신비로운 기쁨입니다. 우리는 모두 어머니의 깨어짐의 산고를 통해 태어났습니다. 깨어짐의 즐거움은 풍성함의 즐거움입니다. 깨어짐이 없이는 풍성함도 없습니다. 한 알의 씨앗이 땅에 심기우면 깨어지는 과정을 거칩니다. 씨앗의 껍질이 깨어질 때 씨앗 속에 있는 생명이 밖으로 나와 싹을 틔웁니다. 꽃을 피웁니다. 꽃이 지고나면 풍성한 열매를 맺습니다. 한 알의 씨앗을 심었는데 풍성한 열매를 맺은 것입니다. 광야에서 모세가 반석을 쳤을 때 생수가 쏟아져 나왔습니다. 반석이 깨어질 때 생수의 강이 흘러넘쳤습니다. “광야에서 반석을 쪼개시고 매우 깊은 곳에서 나오는 물처럼 흡족하게 마시게 하셨으며 또 바위에서 시내를 내사 물이 강 같이 흐르게 하셨으나”(시 78:15-16). 깨어짐이 없이는 풍성함도 없습니다. 예수님을 위해 마리아가 값비싼 옥합을 깨뜨렸을 때 풍성한 은혜가 임했습니다. 예수님은 옥합을 깨뜨린 헌신적인 사랑을 통해 풍성한 위로를 받으셨습니다. 그 위로를 받으신 후 십자가를 향해 나아가셨습니다. 예수님은 십자가에서 반석처럼 깨어지는 아픔을 경험하셨습니다. 예수님의 깨어짐을 통해 우리는 보혈의생수와 성령님의 생수를 받아 마시게 되었습니다(요 19:34). 예수님의 깨어진 몸에서 흘러나온 보혈은 온 인류의 죄를 대속하기에 넉넉합니다. 예수님의 깨어진 몸에서 흘러나온 생수는 온 인류의 갈증을 해갈시키기에 충분합니다. 깨달음의 즐거움은 깨어지는 고통 중에 임합니다. 고통 중에 임한 깨달음의 즐거움은 깊이 있는 즐거움입니다. 가볍고 경박한 즐거움이 아닙니다. 깊은 맛을 내는 즐거움입니다. 지금처럼 어려울 때 우리에게 필요한 것은 깨달음의 즐거움입니다. 하나님이 깨달음의 즐거움을 풍성케 부어 주시길 빕니다.

The Joy of Enlightenment

The joy I enjoy is the joy of enlightenment. The joy of enlightenment is the joy of the "A-ha!" moment. We shout out “A-ha!” when the problem we have been worried about is solved. In fact, enlightenment does not mean that a problem has been specifically solved, but rather a change of perspective of the problem. It is to understand the meaning that was contained in the problem. Then healing takes place and you will be filled with joy.

I hated problems in my early days of ministry. It was a headache whenever I had a problem. So, when a problem arose, or when I met someone who was causing a problem, my heart used to beat and I was afraid. However, one day, enlightenment came to me. I realized that the problem was a blessing in disguise. I realized that there are miracles contained in problems.

One day, while preparing a sermon about miracles, I realized that all miracles in the Bible were caused by problems. The splitting of the Red Sea miracle was a result of the problem of the Red Sea blocking the path of the Israelites. The miracle of the wedding feast at Cana was also a result of the problem of wine running out. The feeding of the 5,000 miracle was also a result of the problem of having to feed so many people and having nothing to eat. The miracle of the resurrection of Lazarus, who died, was also a result of the problem of his disease and death.

Paradoxically, without problems, there are no miracles. If the problem is small, the miracle is small, and if the problem is great, the miracle is great. At that moment, I realized that problems become the raw material for creating miracles. At that moment, amazing joy filled me up. Since that day, whenever problems arise, I welcome them and I am thankful. I witnessed how “the problem” shied away in embarrassment once I welcomed it. Of course, not all problems become miracles. It is when we entrust the problem we face to God, through prayer, that God transforms our problems into miracles.

The joy of enlightenment comes through the pain of brokenness. It takes stimulation in order to understand. That stimulus is the stimulus of brokenness. We like enlightenment, but we hate brokenness. However, the mystery of God is contained in brokenness. All life is born through brokenness. Hermann Hesse said in his book, Demian, “The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Whoever will be born must destroy a world.”

After a hen sits on its egg, a chick is born from it. In order for a chick to be born, it must break the shell of the egg. In order for a child in the mother's womb to be born, the mother's womb must go through the process of breaking. There is no birth without a breaking. A mother rejoices when her just born child is brought to her chest. They rejoice. The father is happy, and the grandparents are happy, as well. Pleasure is a mysterious joy that comes through brokenness. We were all born through the birth of our mother's brokenness.

The joy of brokenness is the joy of abundance. There is no abundance without brokenness. When one seed is planted in the ground, it goes through a process of being broken. When the shell of a seed breaks, the life in the seed comes out and sprouts. It blooms. After the flowers fall, it produces abundant fruit. One seed was planted and it produced abundant fruit.

When Moses struck the rock in the wilderness, living water poured out. When the rock broke, a river of living water overflowed. “He split the rocks in the desert and gave them water as abundant as the seas; he brought streams out of a rocky crag and made water flow down like rivers” (Psalm 78:15–16). There is no abundance without brokenness. When Mary broke an expensive alabaster jar for Jesus, abundant grace came. Jesus received abundant comfort through her devoted love that broke the alabaster jar. After receiving that comfort, he went to the cross.

Jesus experienced the pain of being broken like a rock, on the cross. Through the brokenness of Jesus, we received and drank the living water of the precious blood and the living water of the Holy Spirit (John 19:34). The blood flowing from the broken body of Jesus was sufficient to redeem all mankind from their sins. The living water flowing from the broken body of Jesus is enough to quench the thirst of all mankind.

The joy of enlightenment comes during the pain of being broken. The joy of enlightenment that comes in pain is a deep joy. It is not a light and frivolous pleasure. It is a pleasure that creates a deep taste. What we need in difficult times like now is the joy of enlightenment. May God abundantly pour out the joy of enlightenment.
