[목회서신] 배움의 즐거움에 대한 감사 | Thanksgiving for the Joy of Learning (2020.11.1)

가을이 성큼 찾아 왔습니다. 날씨가 제법 쌀쌀합니다. 가을은 추수와 감사의 계절입니다. 우리는 코로나19로 인해 어느 때보다 힘든 해를 보내고 있습니다. 우리는 정말 많은 변화를 경험하고 있습니다. 앞으로 어떤 변화가 다가올지 예측할 수가 없습니다. 불안하고 답답한 상황입니다. 하지만 성도님들의 입술에서 복된 감사를 만납니다. 그 감사 중의 하나는 배움에 대한 감사입니다. 지난 토요일 밤, 새생명아카데미를 수료한 분들의 간증을 들으면서 배움의 즐거움을 새삼 깨달았습니다. 특별히 부득이한 사정으로 그동안 제자반에 참석하지 못했던 분들이 온라인을 통해 참석한 것을 보았습니다. 코로나의 변화를 통해 누리게 된 선물입니다. 코로나가 찾아오기 전까지 새가족반 모임과 제자반 모임을 온라인으로 진행할 것이라고 생각해 본 적이 없습니다. 깊이 생각해 보면 코로나가 우리에게 선물해 준 것도 있습니다. 물론 저는 코로나를 좋아하지 않습니다. 코로나는 수많은 사람들에게 말할 수 없는 고통을 안겨 주었습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 깊이 생각하면 욥처럼 모든 사건 속에서 감사할 이유를 찾아낼 수 있습니다. 바울은 “기도에 감사함으로 깨어 있으라”(골 4:2하)고 권면합니다. 특별히 “감사함으로 깨어 있으라”는 말씀 속에 아주 소중한 지혜가 담겨 있습니다. 묵상을 배울 때 가장 중요한 것은 “깨어 있음”입니다. 묵상하기 위해서는 먼저 깨어 있어야 합니다. “깨어 있음”은 “주의를 기울이는 것”입니다.” “깨어 있음”은 “깨달음”을 의미합니다. 깨어 있지 않고는 깨달을 수 없습니다. “깨어 있음”은 “눈 뜸”을 의미합니다. “깨어 있음”은 “발견”을 의미합니다. 우리가 깨어 있을 때 우리는 모든 상황을 통해 축복하시는 하나님의 은혜를 깨닫게 됩니다. 인생은 보물찾기입니다. 일상의 삶 속에서 하나님의 은혜를 찾아내는 보물찾기입니다. 하나님께 감사할 이유를 찾아내는 보물찾기입니다. 보물을 찾는 것은 기쁜 일입니다. 보물찾기처럼 감사할 이유를 발견할 때 우리에게 기쁨이 임합니다. 감사에 깨어 있다는 것은 감사할 이유를 찾는 것을 의미합니다. 감사할 이유를 잘 찾아내는 분들의 특징이 있습니다. 그것은 작은 것을 소중히 여기는 것입니다. 작은 깨달음을 귀히 여기는 것입니다. 작은 일에 의미를 부여할 줄 아는 것입니다. 감사는 늘 작은 것으로부터 시작됩니다. 작은 것을 소중히 여기는 사람은 지혜로운 사람입니다. 그 이유는 모든 축복이 작은 것에서 시작되기 때문입니다. 모든 위대한 일이 작은 것에서 시작되기 때문입니다. 하나님은 우리가 적은 일에 충성한 일에 대해 칭찬하십니다. 예수님은 달란트 비유에서 말씀하십니다. “그 주인이 이르되 잘하였도다 착하고 충성된 종아 네가 적은 일에 충성하였으매 내가 많은 것을 네게 맡기리니 네 주인의 즐거움에 참여할지어다”(마 25:23). 적은 일에 충성하게 되면 많은 것을 맡겨 주십니다. 이 말씀은 감사에도 적용됩니다. 하나님은 우리가 적은 일에 감사하면 더 많이 감사할 수 있도록 축복해 주십니다. 배움에 대한 감사는 하나님이 기뻐하시는 감사입니다. 하나님은 우리를 제자로 부르셨습니다. 제자란 배우는 사람입니다. 배움이 소중한 것은 겸손한 사람만이 배우기 때문입니다. 겸손한 사람은 자신의 부족함을 알기에 늘 배웁니다. 겸손한 사람은 모르는 것을 모른다고 말합니다. 모르는 것을 모른다고 말하는 것은 결코 부끄러운 일이 아닙니다. 모르면서 아는 체 하는 것이 부끄러운 일입니다. 가장 안타까운 것은 배우지 않는 사람들은 배움의 즐거움을 누리지 못한다는 것입니다.

Thanksgiving for the Joy of Learning

Autumn has come. The weather is quite chilly. Autumn is the season of harvest and thanksgiving. We are having a harder year than ever with COVID-19. We are experiencing so many changes. We can't predict what changes will happen in the future. It is an anxious and frustrating situation. However, we find blessed thanksgiving on the lips of our saints. One of the many things to be thankful for is the thanksgiving for learning.

Last Saturday night, I again realized the joy of learning while listening to the testimonies of those who have completed the New Life Academy. I saw that those who haven’t been able to attend the class physically due to unavoidable circumstances attended through online. This was a gift from the changes brought on by COVID-19. I never thought that we would hold meetings for newcomers and discipleship classes through online until COVID-19 arrived. If you think deeply, there is something that COVID-19 has given to us as a gift. Of course, I don't like COVID-19. COVID-19 has caused unspeakable pain to millions of people. Nevertheless, if you think deeply, like Job, you can find reasons to be grateful for in every event.

Paul urges us to “devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful” (Colossians 4:2). In particular, the words “being watchful and thankful” contain very precious wisdom. The most important thing while learning to meditate is “being watchful”. To meditate, you must first be awake. “Being watchful” means “paying attention.” “Being watchful” means “enlightening.” We cannot realize without being awake. “Being watchful” means “opening eyes”. “Being watchful” means “discovery.” When we are watchful, we can see the grace of God who blesses us through all circumstances. Life is a treasure hunt. It is a treasure hunt to find God's grace in our everyday life. It is a treasure hunt to find reasons to give God thanks. It is a pleasure to find this treasure. Joy comes to us when we find reasons to be thankful for, just like when we find treasure.

Being watchful in gratitude means finding reasons to be thankful. There are characteristics of those who can find reasons to be thankful. It is the ability to cherish the small things. It is the ability to value small realizations. It is the ability to give meaning to small things. Gratitude always starts with small things. Those who value small things are wise. The reason is that all blessings begin with small things. It is because all great things start with small things.

God praises us for being faithful to a few things. Jesus speaks in the parable of the talents. "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" (Matthew 25:23). When you become faithful with a few things, He will entrust you with many things. This verse also applies to gratitude. God blesses us with more if we are grateful for a few things.

Gratitude for learning is the gratitude that God is pleased with. God has called us to be his disciples. A disciple is a learner. Learning is important because only humble people can learn. A humble person always learns because he knows his shortcomings. A humble person says he doesn't know what he doesn't know. It is never a shame to say you don't know what you don't know. It is a shame to pretend to know while not knowing. Most sadly, those who have not learned do not enjoy the joy of learning.

There is joy in learning. The joy of learning is the joy of growing up. We are delighted to see seeds growing after being planted. We are delighted to see the orchid buds bloom, one day, as we care for it. We are delighted to see our children grow up. We are delighted to see the business we started grow. Those who believe in Jesus rejoice when they see the church, in which they serve, grow.

The joy of learning is the joy of changing. Learning changes us for the better. If you don't learn, you will change for the worse. It's like stagnant water becoming rotten. As we learn the Word, we experience the Word coming into us and transforming us. Then our personality changes. Our character changes. Our nature changes. Our character of words changes. You don't get upset even if you're angry like you have been before. Instead of getting angry, you understand and embrace it. Then our hearts widen. The vessel of our hearts grows larger. God pours great blessings into this large vessel.

Don't waste your time at home like these days, use it as a learning opportunity. Learning means being awake. When we become awake through learning, we also become awake to gratitude. When we are awake to gratitude, we are thankful in all circumstance. If you are grateful in all circumstance, good things will come.
