[목회서신] 비움, 채움, 그리고 나눔 | Emptying, Filling and Sharing

성탄을 앞에 두고 예수님의 비움의 영성을 묵상하고 있습니다. 바울은 예수님께서 “자기를 비워 종의 형체를 가지사 사람들과 같이 되셨다.”(빌 2:7)고 증거합니다. 예수님이 자기를 비우심은 실로 엄청난 사건입니다. 예수님의 비움 속에는 놀라운 진리가 담겨 있습니다. 복된 지혜가 담겨 있습니다. 천국의 원리가 담겨 있습니다.

예수님의 비움은 내려놓음입니다. 예수님은 근본 하나님의 본체이시지만 하나님과 동등 됨을 취할 것을 내려 놓으셨습니다. 예수님은 자신의 권리를 내려놓으셨습니다. 예수님은 권리는 주장하지 않으시고, 책임만 감당하셨습니다. 참된 지도력은 권리를 주장하는 데 있지 않습니다. 탁월한 지도력은 의무를 충실하게 수행하고, 책임을 성실하게 감당하는 데 있습니다.

예수님의 비움은 떠남입니다. 예수님은 우리를 구원하시기 위해 하나님 아버지의 품을 떠나 이 땅에 내려 오셨습니다. 떠남은 헤어짐입니다. 동시에 떠남은 새로운 만남의 전주곡입니다. 이별이 있을 때 새로운 만남이 있습니다. 이별의 아픔은 새로운 만남을 통해 치유됩니다. 예수님은 우리를 만나기 위해 천국을 떠나 이 땅에 내려오셨습니다.

예수님의 비움은 섬김입니다. 예수님은 자신을 비우심으로 종의 형체를 가지셨습니다. 하나님이 종이 되신 것입니다. 종은 섬기는 사람입니다. 예수님은 고난 받는 종으로 이 땅에 오셔서 우리를 섬기셨습니다. 예수님은 섬김을 받으러 오신 것이 아니라 섬기러 오셨습니다(막 10:45). 예수님은 섬김을 행복의 조건으로 선택하셨습니다. 섬김은 천상의 기쁨을 경험하는 원리입니다. 예수님을 영접한 사람들의 기쁨은 섬김에 있습니다. 인간의 행복은 행복에 집착함으로 경험할 수 있는 것이 아닙니다. 참된 행복은 다른 사람을 섬길 때 깃드는 기쁨입니다.

예수님의 비움은 나눔입니다. 비운다는 것은 나눈다는 것을 의미합니다. 예수님은 비움을 통해 나누셨습니다. 비움에는 두 종류의 비움이 있습니다. 첫째 비움은 좋지 않은 것을 비우는 것입니다. 필요 없는 것을 비우는 것입니다. 나쁜 것을 비우는 것입니다. 우리는 회개를 통해 죄를 비웁니다. 욕심을 비우고, 쓰레기를 비웁니다. 더러운 것을 비웁니다. 이런 비움은 나눔이 아니라 버림입니다. 둘째 비움은 아주 소중한 것을 비우는 것입니다. 사람들에게 필요한 것을 비우는 것입니다. 다른 사람의 필요를 채워주기 위해 비우는 것입니다. 예수님의 비움은 좋은 것을 나누기 위한 비움입니다.

예수님은 자신의 살과 피를 나누어 주셨습니다. 우리가 예수님이 누구이신가를 진정으로 안다면 예수님의 피가 얼마나 보배로운 피인가를 깨닫게 됩니다. 예수님의 피는 하나님의 아들의 피요, 곧 하나님의 피입니다. 예수님은 비움을 통해 우리에게 보혈을 나누어 주셨습니다. 그리함으로 우리는 용서를 받게 되었습니다. 죄의 심판과 사망과 마귀로부터 자유케 되었습니다. 예수님은 비움을 통해 하나님의 생명을 나누어 주셨습니다. 그리함으로 우리는 영생을 얻게 되었습니다.

예수님의 비움은 낮춤입니다. 예수님은 자기를 낮추시고 죽기까지 복종하셨습니다(빌 2:8). 낮춤은 겸손을 의미합니다. 예수님은 겸손하신 주님이십니다. 아담의 원죄를 따라 태어난 인간은 모두 높아지길 원합니다. 아담의 원죄의 뿌리는 교만에 있었습니다. 옛 뱀은 하와에게 선악과를 따 먹으면 하나님과 같이 될 것이라고 유혹했습니다(창 3:5). 그 유혹은 무서운 유혹이었습니다. 그 유혹은 하와에게서 아담에게로 이어졌습니다. 아담은 자신의 위치와 한계를 망각한 채 하나님이 되고 싶어 선악과를 따 먹었습니다. 그리함으로 전 인류를 죄와 사망의 고통 속으로 몰아넣었습니다. 하지만 예수님은 자신을 낮추셨습니다. 예수님의 낮춤은 순종으로 이어졌습니다. 그리함으로 인류 구원의 역사를 이루셨습니다.

예수님의 비움은 채움입니다. 하나님 아버지는 비우신 예수님 안에 좋은 것으로 가득 채우셨습니다. 아버지께서는 모든 충만으로 예수님 안에 거하게 하셨습니다(골 1:19). 예수님 안에 은혜와 진리가 충만했습니다(요 1:14). 이것이 비움의 신비입니다. 비우면 채워지게 됩니다. 기독교의 비움은 비움 자체를 위한 것이 아닙니다. 기독교의 비움은 채움을 위한 것입니다. 기독교의 채움은 나눔과 섬김을 위한 것입니다. 비움이 있을 때 채움이 있습니다. 채움이 있은 후에는 나눔을 통해 비워야 합니다. 비움과 채움, 그리고 채움과 비움은 일회적인 사건이 아닙니다. 지속되고 반복되어야 할 생명의 흐름입니다.

하나님의 생명의 비밀은 흐름에 있습니다. 채움만 있으면 그 흐름이 막힙니다. 흐름이 막히면 썩고 죽음이 찾아옵니다. 비움만 있어도 그 흐름이 막힙니다. 비움과 채움의 흐름이 조화를 이룰 때 우리는 풍성한 생명을 누리게 됩니다. 예수님의 비움과 채움과 나눔을 통해 우리는 풍성한 생명을 누리게 되었습니다. 그래서 우리는 성탄을 기다리며 즐거워합니다.

Emptying, Filling and Sharing

As Christmas is drawing near, I am meditating on the spirituality of Jesus' emptying. Paul testifies that Jesus “emptied himself by taking the form of a slave and by becoming like human beings” (Philippians 2:7 CEB). The act of Jesus emptying himself is truly a tremendous event. An amazing truth is contained in the act of Jesus' emptying. It contains blessed wisdom. It contains the principles of heaven.

Jesus' emptying is an act of laying down. Although Jesus is the very nature God, but he laid down being equal with God. Jesus laid down his rights. Jesus did not claim his rights, but he only took responsibility. True leadership is not about claiming rights. Excellence in leadership consists in fulfilling our duties faithfully and being faithful to our responsibilities.

Jesus' emptying is to leave. Jesus left his Heavenly Father's arms and came down to this earth to save us. Leaving is separating. At the same time, it is a prelude to a new encounter. When there is separation, there is a new encounter. The pain of separation is healed through new encounters. Jesus left heaven and came down to this earth in order to meet us.

Jesus' emptying is the act of serving. By emptying Himself, Jesus took the form of a servant. God became a servant. A servant is a person who serves. Jesus came to this earth to serve us as a suffering servant. Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45). Jesus chose serving as a condition of happiness. Serving is the principle of experiencing heavenly joy. The joy of those who accept Jesus lies in serving. Happiness cannot be experienced through an obsession I for happiness. True happiness is the joy that comes from serving others.

Jesus' emptying is in the act of sharing. To empty means to share. Jesus shared through His emptying. There are two types of emptying. The first emptying is emptying the useless things. It's emptying out what you don't need. It is emptying the bad. We empty sin through repentance. We empty greed and empty trash. We empty out what’s dirty. This emptying is not sharing, but abandoning. Secondly, emptying is the emptying out of something very precious. It is emptying out what people need. It is emptying to meet the needs of others. Jesus' emptying was the emptying of sharing good things.

Jesus shared his flesh and his blood. If we truly know who Jesus is, we will realize how precious the blood of Jesus is. The blood of Jesus is the blood of the Son of God, the blood of God. Jesus shared His blood with us through emptying. That is how we are forgiven. We became free from the judgment of sin, death, and the devil. Jesus shared God's life through emptying. Thus, we have eternal life.

Jesus' emptying is an act of lowering. Jesus humbled himself and became obedient to death (Philippians 2:8). Lowering means being humble. Jesus is the humble king. All human beings, born after Adam's original sin, have a desire to be exalted. Adam's original sin was rooted in pride. The old serpent tempted Eve by telling her that if she picked up the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, she would become like God (Genesis 3:5). The temptation was a terrible temptation. The temptation went from Eve to Adam. Adam, forgetting his position and limitations, wanted to become God and ate the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. Thus, it drove all mankind into the pain of sin and death. But Jesus humbled himself. Jesus' lowering led to obedience. Thus, he accomplished the work of saving mankind.

Jesus' emptying is an act of filling. Our Heavenly Father filled the empty cup of Jesus with good things. The Father let all the fullness dwell in Jesus (Colossians 1:19). Grace and truth were full in Jesus (John 1:14). This is the mystery of emptying. When one is empty, he will be filled. Christian emptiness is not for the emptiness itself. Christian emptiness is for the filling up. And the filling of Christianity is for sharing and serving. When there is emptiness, there is filling. After the filling up, it must be emptied through sharing. Emptying and filling and filling and emptying are not one-time events. It is a flow of life that must be sustained and repeated.

The secret of God's life lies in the flow. If there is only filling, the flow is blocked. When the flow is blocked, it rots and leads to death. Even when there is only emptying the flow is blocked. When the flow of emptying and filling is in harmony, we enjoy abundant life. Through Jesus' emptying, filling, and sharing, we enjoy abundant life. That's why we rejoice as we wait for Christmas.
