[목회서신] 기도하고, 찾아가서, 복음을 전하십시오! (2019.02.17)

하나님의 가장 큰 기쁨은 잃어버린 영혼을 구원하는 것입니다. 하나님의 관심은 죄인에게 있습니다. 하나님은 죄는 미워하시지만 죄인은 사랑하십니다. 예수님은 우리가 죄인 되었을 때 우리를 위해 죽으심으로 하나님의 사랑을 확증해 주셨습니다(롬 5:8). 예수님은 “죄인을 불러 회개시키러 왔노라”(눅 5:32)고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님은 죄인을 구원하시려고 오신 까닭에 잃어버린 영혼에게 가장 큰 관심을 갖고 계십니다.

영혼 구원은 죄인을 향한 사랑에서 시작됩니다. 사랑은 관심입니다. 사랑한다는 것은 관심을 갖는 것입니다. 관심(關心)은 어떤 것에 마음이 끌려 주의를 기울이는 것을 의미합니다. 관심은 끌림입니다. 하나님은 잃어버린 영혼에게 관심을 가지셨기 때문에, 그들에게 마음이 끌리셨습니다. 끌림은 얻음입니다. 우리는 마음에 이끌리는 것을 얻게 됩니다. 잃어버린 영혼에게 관심을 두고 전도하게 되면 그 영혼을 얻게 됩니다.

신앙 성숙이란 하나님이 기뻐하시는 것에 초점을 맞추는 것입니다. 하나님은 죄인 한 사람이 회개할 때 크게 기뻐하신다고 말씀하십니다(눅 15:7). 그리스도인에게 가장 큰 기쁨을 경험하도록 도와주는 것은 영혼을 구원하는 것입니다. 영혼을 구원하는 것은 결코 쉬운 일이 아닙니다. 산모가 아이를 잉태하고 출산할 때 산통을 경험하는 것처럼 한 생명을 구원하기 위해서는 산통을 겪어야 합니다. 하지만 산통에만 초점을 맞추지 말고, 출산 후의 기쁨에 더욱 초점을 맞추어야 합니다. 산모가 아이를 출산한 후에 경험하는 기쁨은 최상의 기쁨입니다. 그와 같이 영혼을 구원하는 기쁨도 마찬가지입니다. 누군가를 예수님께 인도한 기쁨은 최상의 기쁨입니다.

하나님이 가장 소중히 여기는 것은 영혼구원입니다. 하나님은 한 영혼이 천하보다 귀하다고 말씀하십니다(막 8:36). 우리가 어떤 것의 가치를 측정하는 기준 중에 하나는 영구성(永久性)입니다. 이 세상에 존재하는 대부분의 것은 영원하지 않습니다. 꽃은 아름답지만 곧 시들고 맙니다. 영원한 것은 오직 세 가지입니다. 첫째, 하나님이 영원하십니다(사 40:28). 둘째, 하나님의 말씀이 영원합니다(벧전 1:23-25). 셋째, 인간의 영혼이 영원합니다. 사람은 누구나 영원히 삽니다. 예수님을 믿는 사람은 영생(永生)을 얻어 천국에서 영원(永遠)히 삽니다. 반면에 예수님을 믿지 않은 사람은 죄의 심판을 받아 지옥에서 영원히 살게 됩니다.

사람은 누구나 한번 죽습니다. 그 다음에는 심판이 있습니다(히 9:27). 예수님을 믿는 사람은 예수님이 우리 죄를 대신해서 십자가에서 심판을 받으신 까닭에 심판을 받지 않습니다(요 5:24). 예수님을 믿는 사람은 한 번 죽고, 영생복락을 누리게 됩니다. 반면에 예수님을 믿지 않은 사람은 자신이 지은 죄에 대해 스스로가 책임을 지고 그 죄에 대한 형벌을 받게 됩니다. 예수님을 믿지 아니한 사람들은 죽은 후에 둘째 사망에 처하게 됩니다. “믿지 아니하는 자들(은) ... 불과 유황으로 타는 못에 던져지리니 이것이 둘째 사망이라”(계 21:8). 우리가 아직 예수님을 믿지 않은 분들에게 전도해야 하는 절박성이 바로 여기에 있습니다. 그리스도인의 주된 업무는 영벌(永罰)을 받아 지옥(地獄)에 가게 될 사람들을 예수님께 인도해서 영생을 얻게 하는 것입니다.

우리가 잃어버린 영혼을 전도하는 길은 첫째, 기도하는 것입니다. 기도 없이 구원받은 영혼은 없습니다. 둘째, 잃어버린 영혼을 찾아 나가는 것입니다. 아주 단순한 진리이지만 고기를 잡기 위해서는 어장(漁場)으로 나가야 합니다. 수영장에 앉아 낚시하는 사람은 없습니다. 예수님은 우리를 “사람을 낚는 어부”로 부르셨습니다(마 4:19). 예수님은 “가서 열매를 맺으라”(요 15:16)고 말씀하십니다. 또한 예수님은 “가서 모든 민족으로 제자를 삼으라”(마 28:19)고 말씀하십니다. 가면 만나게 됩니다. 바울이 빌립보에서 기도처를 찾으러 나갔다가 루디아를 만나, 그녀와 온 가족을 구원했습니다(행 16:13-15). 셋째, 만나는 사람들에게 복음을 전하십시오. 가장 좋은 전도는 자신이 예수님을 믿기 전과 믿은 후, 변화된 일에 대해 전하는 것입니다. 하나님의 선하심을 맛본 일에 대해 전하는 것입니다(시 34:8). 예수님을 만난 후에 받은 복과 변화된 삶에 대해 나누는 것입니다. 그것이 사도 바울의 전도법이었습니다(행 9장).

가장 아름다운 관심은 잃어버린 영혼을 구원하기 위한 관심입니다. 잃어버린 영혼에 관심을 갖고 기도하십시오. 기도한 후에 사람들이 있는 곳으로 나가십시오. 하나님이 예비해 두신 영혼들을 만나게 될 것입니다. 낯선 사람을 만나는 것을 두려워하지 마십시오. 만나는 사람들에게 복음을 전해 주십시오. 전도지를 나눠 주십시오. 당장 어떤 결과가 드러나지 않는다고 낙심하지 마십시오. 씨 뿌리는 마음으로 전도하십시오. 언젠가 반드시 열매를 맺게 될 것입니다. 우리 함께 기도하고 찾아가서 복음을 전하도록 합시다. 임마누엘의 주님이 함께 해 주실 것입니다(마 28:20).

Pray, Go, and Share the Gospel!

God's greatest joy is to save a lost soul. God's concern is with sinners. God hates sin but loves sinners. Jesus affirmed God's love by dying for us while we were still sinners (Ro 5:8). Jesus said, "I have come to call the sinners to repentance." (Lk 5:32) Jesus, who came to save sinners, has the greatest interest in lost souls.

The salvation of souls begins with a love for sinners. Love is an interest. To love is to have interest. Interest is to give attention to something, being attracted by it. Interest is attraction. Because God was interested in the lost soul, His heart reached out towards them. Attraction leads to gain. We gain what we are attracted to, into our hearts. So, if you are interested in lost souls and bear witness to them, you will gain the souls.

Spiritual maturity is to focus on what God is pleased with. God says that He will be rejoicing greatly over one sinner who repents (Lk 15:7). It is the saving of a soul that helps Christians experience the greatest joy. Saving a soul is never easy. Like a mother conceiving a child, experiencing pain as she gives birth, we must experience the childbirth pain to save a life. But do not focus only on the pain, you should focus more on the joy that comes after the childbirth. The joy that a mother experiences after giving birth to a child is the greatest joy. Also it is so in the joy of saving a soul. The joy in leading someone to Jesus is the greatest joy.

What God values most is the salvation of a soul. God says that a soul is worthier than the whole world (Mk 8:36). One of the criteria we measure the value of something is permanency. Most things that exist in this world are not eternal. Flowers are beautiful, but soon they will wither. There are only three things that are eternal. First, God is eternal (Isa 40:28). Second, the Word of God is eternal (1Pe 1:23-25). Third, the human soul is eternal. Everyone lives forever. The person who believes in Jesus will have eternal life and live in heaven, forever. On the other hand, those who do not believe in Jesus will be judged with their sins and live in hell, forever.

Everyone dies once. Then there is judgment (Heb 9:27). The person who believes in Jesus will not be judged because Jesus was already judged on the cross on behalf of our sins (Jn 5:24). The person who believes in Jesus will die once and enjoy eternal blessing and joy. On the other hand, those who do not believe in Jesus will be held responsible for their own sins and be punished for their sins. Those who do not believe in Jesus are put to a second death, after death. “But the cowardly, the unbelieving (ones)… their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death" (Rev 21:8). This is the urgency we must have as we witness to those who do not yet believe in Jesus. The main task of a Christian is to lead those who will be sent to hell, under permanent condemnation, to Jesus Christ for eternal life.

The way that we witness to a lost soul is, first, to pray. There is no saved soul without prayer. Second, it is to go seek out the lost soul. It is a simple truth, but to catch fish you must learn how to fish. No one sits at the pool to fish. Jesus called us "fishers of men" (Mt 4:19). Jesus says, "Go and bear fruit" (Jn 15:16). Jesus also says, "Go and make disciples of all nations" (Mt 28:19). You will make, if you go. Paul went out looking for a place to pray in Philippi, met Lydia, and led her and her whole family to salvation (Ac 16:13-15). Third, preach the gospel to those you meet. The best evangelism is to testify and share how your life has changed before and after putting your faith in Jesus. It is to tell them about tasting God's goodness (Ps 34:8). It is to share about the blessings received and the transformed life you experienced after encountering Jesus. That was the evangelism of Apostle Paul (Ac 9, 22, 26).

The most beautiful interest is the interest to win a lost soul. Have interest in lost souls and pray. After praying, go to where the people are. You will meet the souls that God has prepared. Do not be afraid of meeting strangers. Please share the gospel with people you meet. Please hand out the evangelism tract. Do not be discouraged by the fact that no results are shown immediately. Witness with the heart of planting seeds. Someday you will surely bear fruit. Let us pray together and let us go and share the gospel. The Lord of Immanuel will be with you (Mt 28:20).
