[목회서신] 변화는 새로운 창조의 시작입니다! (2020.05.24)

작은 바이러스가 온 세상을 변화시켰습니다. 고통은 변화를 창조합니다. 고통은 자극을 줍니다. 자극이 우리를 변화시킵니다. 우리는 변화를 갈망하면서도 변화를 두려워합니다. 하지만 살아 있는 동안 우리는 변화를 피할 수 없습니다. 살아 있다는 것은 변화한다는 것입니다. 변화하지 않는 곳이 있습니다. 무덤입니다. 무덤은 변화하지 않습니다. 그 이유는 무덤에는 생명이 없기 때문입니다. 인간의 생명은 어머니의 자궁에 잉태되는 순간 변화하고 성장합니다.

변화는 피할 수 없는 우리의 과제입니다. 피할 수 없다면 환영해야 합니다. 피할 수 없다면 선용해야 합니다. 생존하기 위해서는 변화를 수용하고 변화에 적응해야 합니다. 생존을 넘어 풍성한 삶을 살기 위해서는 변화에 적응만 해서는 안 됩니다. 물론 변화에 적응만 잘해도 훌륭합니다. 하지만 변화에 적응만하는 삶은 소극적인 삶입니다.

풍성한 삶은 변화에 적응하는 정도가 아니라 변화를 창조해 내는 것입니다. 다른 사람들보다 조금 더 앞서 변화를 추구하는 것입니다. 어떤 사건에 반응만 하는 삶이 아니라 창조적인 삶을 사는 것입니다. 변화란 무엇일까요? 변화가 왜 그토록 중요할까요? 어떻게 창조적인 변화를 추구할 수 있을까요?

가장 중요한 것은 변화의 중요성을 깨닫는 것입니다. 변화의 중요성을 깨달으면 변화를 긍정적으로 생각하게 됩니다. 변화를 좋아하게 됩니다. 변화를 환영하게 됩니다. 반면에 변화에 부정적인 생각을 품게 되면 변화를 추구하지 않게 됩니다. 변화를 싫어하게 됩니다. 변화를 싫어하게 되면 변화가 주는 놀라운 축복을 놓치게 됩니다.

변화 속에는 축복의 기회가 담겨 있습니다. 변화는 좋지만 변질(變質)은 좋은 것이 아닙니다. 변화는 더 나은 방향으로 바뀌는 것입니다. 더 가치 있는 방향으로 바뀌는 것입니다. 반면에 변질은 더 나쁜 방향으로 바뀌는 것입니다. 변질(變質)이란 가치를 상실하게 되고 더 이상 쓸모없게 되는 것을 의미합니다. 변질은 음식이 부패하는 것과 같습니다. 그래서 변질되면 악취가 납니다. 하나님이 우리에게 원하시는 것은 변질이 아니라 아름다운 변화입니다.

변화는 익숙한 것들과의 결별을 의미합니다. 변화는 떠남입니다. 변화는 잘라내는 것입니다. 엄마는 아이를 잉태하고 10개월이 되면 아이를 출산하게 됩니다. 아이가 세상에 나오면 제일 먼저 하는 것이 탯줄을 잘라내는 것입니다. 만약에 엄마가 변화를 싫어해서 탯줄을 잘라내지 않는다면 아이의 생명은 위태로워집니다. 아이는 더 이상 성장할 수 없습니다. 탯줄을 잘라내는 경험은 아픕니다. 고통스럽습니다. 하지만 탯줄을 잘라내는 아픔이 아이를 살리고 성장하게 만듭니다.

변화는 새로운 만남을 의미합니다. 요셉의 형제들은 요셉을 미워해서 은 20냥에 그를 팔았습니다. 요셉은 익숙한 가족들과 결별했습니다. 그는 익숙한 땅을 떠나 애굽에 끌려갔습니다. 그는 익숙한 땅을 떠나 새로운 땅으로 들어갔습니다. 그는 새로운 땅에서 새로운 만남을 갖게 되었습니다. 그는 새로운 만남을 통해 새로운 역사가 전개되는 것을 경험했습니다. 하나님은 낯선 땅에서 요셉을 훌륭한 인물로 세우셨습니다. 그러므로 우리는 익숙한 것들과 결별하는 변화를 두려워해서는 안 됩니다.

변화는 성장과 성숙을 의미합니다. 하나님은 우리를 있는 모습 그대로 사랑하시지만 우리가 성장하고 성숙하길 원하십니다. 자녀가 자궁 속에 영원히 머물기를 원하는 어머니는 없습니다. 또한 자녀가 초등학교에 영원토록 머물기를 원하는 부모는 없습니다. 부모가 자녀에게 원하는 것은 성장하고 성숙해지는 것입니다. 성숙해진다는 것은 새로운 창조를 의미합니다.

앙리 베르그송은 “변화하는 것은 성숙하는 것이며, 성숙하는 것은 우리 자신을 끊임없이 창조하는 것이다.”라고 말했습니다. 진정한 변화와 성숙은 예수님을 만날 때 시작됩니다. 그 이유는 우리는 예수님을 만남으로 새 창조를 경험하기 때문입니다. 우리가 예수님을 만나는 순간 우리는 새로운 피조물로 창조됩니다. 그때 이전 것은 지나가고 새 것이 됩니다(고후 5:17). 예수님은 새 포도주는 새 부대에 넣는다고 말씀하십니다(막 2:22). 변화를 위해 주신 말씀입니다.

코비드-19이후로 수많은 변화가 예측됩니다. 변화는 이미 시작되었습니다. 우리는 변화에 반응만 해서는 안 됩니다. 적극적으로 변화를 환영해야 합니다. 변화를 읽어내고, 변화를 예측하고, 변화를 창조해야 합니다. 변화를 주도해 나가야 합니다. 그때 우리는 생존을 넘어 풍성한 삶을 살게 됩니다. 변화의 비밀은 작은 것에 있습니다. 작은 변화를 소중히 여기십시오. 작은 변화를 시도하십시오. 작은 변화가 점점 큰 변화를 만들어 냅니다. 작은 변화를 위해 첫 걸음을 내딛도록 하십시오. 하나님이 우리 모두에게 아름다운 변화를 창조하는 지혜를 주시길 빕니다.

Change is the Start of a New Creation!

A small virus changed the whole world. Pain creates change. Pain stimulates. Stimulation changes us. We yearn for change, but we also fear change. However, while we are alive, we cannot avoid change. Being alive means change. There is a place that does not change. It is at the grave. The grave does not have change. The reason is because there is no life in the grave. As soon as we are conceived in our mother’s womb, human life changes and grows.

Change is like an inevitable task. And if we can't avoid it, we should welcome it. If we can't avoid it, we must make good use of it. In order to survive, we must embrace change and adapt to it. In order to live an abundant life beyond survival, we cannot just adapt to change. Of course, just adapting to change is great. However, a life that only adapts to change is a passive life.

An abundant life is not about adjusting to change, but about creating change. It's about pursuing change a bit faster than others. It's not just a reaction to a certain event, but living a creative life. What is change? Why is change so important? How can you pursue creative change?

The most important thing is to realize the importance of change. When you realize the importance of change, you will think positively about it. You will like change. You will welcome change. On the other hand, if you have negative thoughts about change, you will not pursue change. You will hate change. If you hate change, you will miss out on the amazing blessings of change.

In change, there are opportunities for blessings. Change is good, but deterioration is not good. Change is for changing direction for the better. It is to turn to a more valuable direction. On the other hand, deterioration is turning to a poorer direction. Deterioration means to lose value and to become obsolete. Deterioration is like decaying food. So, when it deteriorates, it stinks. What God wants from us is not deterioration but beautiful change.

Change means separation from familiar things. Change is to leave. Change is to cut off. When the mother conceives a child, the mother gives birth to the child after ten months. When the baby comes out into the world, the first thing to be done is to cut the umbilical cord. If the mother doesn't cut the umbilical cord because she hates change, the child's life is at danger. The child can no longer grow. The experience of cutting the umbilical cord is painful. However, the pain of cutting the umbilical cord makes the child live and grow.

Change means new encounter. Joseph's brothers hated Joseph and sold him for 20 silver coins. Joseph was separated from his familiar family. He left the familiar land of his home and was dragged to Egypt. He left the familiar land and entered a new land. He had a new encounter in the new land. He experienced new history unfolded through new encounters. God made Joseph into a great person in a strange land. Therefore, we should not be afraid of changes that separate us from familiar things.

Change means growth and maturity. God loves us as we are, but he wants us to grow and mature. No mother wants her child to stay in the womb forever. Also, no parents want their children to stay in elementary school forever. Parents want their children to grow and mature. Being mature means creating new things.

"To change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly," said Henri Bergson. True change and maturity begins when we meet Jesus. This is because we experience becoming a new creation through meeting Jesus. The moment we meet Jesus, we are created into a new creation. Then the old is gone, and the new will come (2 Corinthians 5:17). Jesus says that new wine is put into a new wineskin (Mark 2:22). This is the Word for change.

Numerous changes are predicted after COVID-19. Change has already begun. We shouldn't just react to change. We must actively welcome change. We must read change, predict change, and create change. We must lead change. Then we can go beyond survival and live an abundant life. The secret of change lies in small things. Let’s value small changes. Try a small change. Small changes lead to more and more changes. Take the first step toward making small changes. May God give us all the wisdom to create beautiful change.
