[목회서신] 기도 불패 | Prayer Undefeated

   모국 집회에서 전한 첫 번째 말씀은 “기도 불패”였습니다. 저는 예수님을 만난 후에 새벽마다 무릎을 꿇고 기도하는 것을 배웠습니다. 기도 노트에 기도 제목을 기록하고 기도하는 법을 배웠습니다. 평생 기도 제목, 5년 기도 제목, 한 해 동안 간구할 기도 제목을 기록하고 기도드렸습니다. 돌이켜 보면 하나님은 제가 기도 노트에 기록한 기도 제목보다 더 풍성하게 응답해 주셨습니다. 그 당시 상황으로는 불가능하게 느껴지는 기도 제목을 품고 믿음으로 하나님께 간절히 간구했습니다. 그런데 고등학교 때, 기도 노트에 기록하고 간구한 기도가 넘치도록 응답받았습니다.

사도 바울은 옥중에서 에베소 성도들에게 우리가 구하는 것보다 더 넘치도록 부어 주시는 하나님을 찬양합니다. “우리 가운데서 역사하시는 능력대로 우리가 구하거나 생각하는 모든 것에 더 넘치도록 능히 하실이에게”(엡 3:20). 우리가 구하는 것과 생각하는 것보다 더 넘치도록 능히 응답해 주시는 하나님을 찬양합시다. 생각한다는 것은 상상하는 것입니다. 꿈을 꾸는 것입니다.

하나님은 우리의 말을 따라 역사하십니다(민 14:28; 막 11:23). 말은 씨앗과 같습니다. 모든 씨앗이 열매를 맺지는 않습니다. 그와 같이 모든 말이 다 열매를 맺는 것은 아닙니다. 하지만 반복해서 자신이 하는 말에 믿음을 담고, 감정을 담고, 기도를 담으면 그 말이 현실이 될 가능성이 높습니다. 하나님은 우리가 하는 말에 늘 귀를 기울이고 계십니다.

하나님은 우리 믿음을 따라 역사하십니다(마 9:22, 29, 15:28). 믿음은 바라는 것입니다. 믿음은 밝은 미래를 상상하는 것입니다. 믿음은 미래를 디자인하는 것입니다. 믿음은 미리 보는 것입니다. 하나님은 미리 보게 하시고, 그 본 것을 얻게 하십니다(창 13:14-17). 아브라함에게 그의 후손을 미리 보게 하셨습니다(창 15:5-6). 그와 그의 후손이 소유할 땅을 미리 보게하셨습니다(창 13:14-15). 하나님은 본 것을 소유케 하시고 성취케 하십니다. 본 곳을 향해 들어가게 하십니다. 여호수아와 갈렙은 가나안 땅을 정탐한지 40년 후에 그들이 보았던 땅에 들어갔습니다. 또한 하나님은 우리가 바라보는 대상을 닮게 하십니다(고후 3:18). 인생은 늘 바라보는 대상에 따라 결정됩니다. 하나님의 사람들은 늘 하나님을 바라보았습니다(시 62:1). 예수님을 바라보았습니다(히 12:2).

하나님은 우리 기도를 따라 역사하십니다. 하나님은 약속한 것을 지키시는 신실하신 분입니다. 전능하신 분입니다. 기도의 약속을 지키시는 분입니다. 물론 약속하신 것을 언제, 어디서, 어떻게, 누구를 통해 지키실 것은 하나님이 정하십니다. 때로는 우리가 생각하는 때와 장소와 시간과 방법과 그 대상이 다를 수 있습니다. 하지만 하나님은 약속한 것을 지키시는 신실하신 분입니다. 또한 우리가 원하는 것보다 우리가 필요한 것을 주시는 지혜로운 분이십니다.

왜 기도 불패일까요? 기도는 하나님의 원리이기 때문에 불패입니다. 삼위일체 하나님은 기도하시고, 기도에 응답하시는 하나님이십니다. 예수님은 기도하십니다(롬 8:34; 히 5:7, 7:25). 성령님도 기도하십니다(롬 8:26-27), 기도의 세계는 인간이 측량할 수 없는 세계입니다. 전능하신 하나님이 기도하십니다. 하나님은 기도로 세계를 움직이십니다(시 2:8). 하나님이 우리에게 무엇인가를 주시기 원하실 때 먼저 간구의 심령을 부어 주십니다(슥 12:10). 하나님이 먼저 우리 안에서 역사하심으로 기도케 하십니다(엡 3:20). 그리고 우리가 간구한 것을 응답해 주십니다. 기도의 세계는 영의 세계입니다. 기도의 세계는 신비의 세계입니다. 기도할 때 하나님의 천사가 동원됩니다(눅 22:43-44). 우주가 움직입니다. 하나님은 우리 기도에 응답하시기 위해 사람들을 움직이십니다.

왜 기도 불패일까요? 모든 기도는 세 가지로 응답됩니다. 응답(yes), 거절(no), 그리고 기다림(wait)이라는 세 가지 방법으로 응답됩니다. 거절도 응답입니다. 하나님은 바울이 육체의 가시를 제거해 달라고 세 번 기도했을 때 거절하심으로 응답하십니다(고후 12:7-9). 하나님이 거절하시는 이유는 우리가 원하는 것보다 우리에게 필요한 것을 주시기 위해서입니다. 하나님은 우리의 필요를 채워 주시는 분입니다(빌 4:19). 우리의 정욕이나 탐욕을 채워 주는 분이 아닙니다(약 4:2-3). 하나님은 우리가 원하는 것보다 더 좋은 것을 주시는 분입니다(마 7:7-11). 또한 하나님은 가장 적합한 때를 알고 계시기 때문에 기도하고 기다리게 하십니다. 하나님은 아브라함에게 약속한 자녀를 그가 생각했던 때가 아닌 그가 백세가 되었을 때 허락해 주셨습니다.

왜 기도 불패일까요? 하나님은 모든 것을 합력하여 선을 이루시는 분이기 때문입니다. “우리가 알거니와 하나님을 사랑하는 자 곧 그의 뜻대로 부르심을 입은 자들에게는 모든 것이 합력하여 선을 이루느니라”(롬 8:28). 저는 하나님의 깊은 지혜를 신뢰합니다. 하나님의 섭리를 신뢰합니다. 하나님의 때를 신뢰합니다. 그래서 인내하는 마음을 품고 날마다 기도합니다. 기도할 때 하나님은 모든 것을 합력하여 선을 이루십니다. 특별히 자녀를 위한 기도는 자녀의 미래를 위해 선한 씨앗을 심는 것입니다. 기도를 통해 자녀를 하나님께 맡기십시오. 기도로 승리하시길 빕니다. 모국에서 말씀을 전하는 시간마다 성도님들의 중보 기도의 능력을 경험합니다. 깊이 감사드립니다.

Prayer Undefeated

  The first message I delivered during my trip to the motherland was titled “Prayer Undefeated.” After encountering Jesus, I learned to kneel every dawn and pray. I learned to record prayer requests in a prayer journal and lift them up to God. I wrote down lifetime prayer requests, five-year prayer goals, and petitions for the year, praying over them faithfully. Looking back, I realize that God answered my prayers far more abundantly than what I had written. At the time, I lifted up prayer requests that felt impossible according to the circumstances, yet I cried out to God with faith. In high school, I experienced overwhelming answers to the prayers I had recorded and brought before Him.

The Apostle Paul, even while imprisoned, praised God as the One who does far more than all we ask or imagine: "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us" (Ephesians 3:20). Let us praise God who answers beyond what we ask or even dream. To imagine is to dream — to envision what has not yet been seen.

God moves according to the words we speak (Numbers 14:28; Mark 11:23). Words are like seeds. Not every seed bears fruit, just as not every word bears fruit. But when we repeatedly speak words filled with faith, emotion, and prayer, they are far more likely to become reality. God listens intently to the words that come from our mouths.

God also moves according to our faith (Matthew 9:22, 29; 15:28). Faith is about hoping for what is yet unseen. Faith imagines a bright future. Faith designs what is to come. Faith sees ahead. God allows us to see what lies ahead, and He grants what we have seen (Genesis 13:14–17). He allowed Abraham to see his descendants even before they were born (Genesis 15:5–6), and He showed him the land that his offspring would one day possess (Genesis 13:14–15). God leads us to take hold of what we have seen by faith. Joshua and Caleb, who spied out the land of Canaan, entered that very land forty years later. Moreover, God shapes us into what we continually behold (2 Corinthians 3:18). Our lives are determined by what we fix our eyes on. The people of God always fixed their eyes on Him (Psalm 62:1). They fixed their eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2).

God also moves according to our prayers. He is the faithful One who fulfills His promises. He is the Almighty One who keeps His Word. He is the One who honors His promises concerning prayer. It is God who decides when, where, how, and through whom He will fulfill what He has promised. Sometimes, His timing, methods, or means may differ from what we expect. But God is faithful to all He has spoken. He is also wise, giving us not merely what we desire but what we truly need.

Why is prayer undefeated? Because prayer follows God's own principle. The Triune God is a God who prays and a God who answers prayer. Jesus prays (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 5:7; 7:25). The Holy Spirit also intercedes (Romans 8:26–27). The realm of prayer is a dimension beyond human measurement. It is the Almighty God who prays and acts through prayer. God moves the world by prayer (Psalm 2:8). When God desires to give us something, He first pours out upon us the spirit of supplication (Zechariah 12:10). God first moves within us to pray (Ephesians 3:20), and then He answers the prayers we lift up. The realm of prayer is the realm of the Spirit. It is a realm of mystery. When we pray, God's angels are dispatched (Luke 22:43–44). The universe moves. God moves people in response to our prayers.

Why is prayer undefeated? Because every prayer receives an answer — either "yes," "no," or "wait." Even a refusal is an answer. When Paul prayed three times for the removal of his thorn in the flesh, God answered with a "no" (2 Corinthians 12:7–9). God sometimes says no to give us not what we want but what we truly need. He is the God who meets our needs (Philippians 4:19), not our lusts or greed (James 4:2–3). God gives what is better than what we ask (Matthew 7:7–11). And because He knows the best timing, He often leads us to pray and wait. God gave Abraham the promised child not when Abraham expected, but when he was one hundred years old.

Why is prayer undefeated? Because God works all things together for good. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). I trust the profound wisdom of God. I trust His providence. I trust His perfect timing. That is why I pray each day with patience in my heart. When we pray, God works all things together for our good. Especially, prayers for our children are like planting good seeds into their future. Entrust your children to God through prayer. I pray you will overcome and live in victory through prayer. Each time I share the Word here in the motherland, I experience the power of your faithful intercessions. I am deeply grateful.
