[목회서신] 헌신의 축복은 풍성합니다! | The Blessing of Devotion is Abundant!

헌신의 능력은 대단합니다. 헌신의 능력은 우리 미래를 바꾸는 능력입니다. 성경의 이야기는 헌신한 사람들의 이야기입니다. 하나님은 헌신을 고귀하게 여기십니다. 하나님은 헌신을 선하고 아름답게 여기십니다. 하나님은 헌신한 사람들을 위해 풍성한 축복을 예비해 놓으셨습니다. 헌신은 순수한 사랑입니다. 아무 것도 바라지 않은 헌신이 가장 아름답습니다. 순수한 헌신은 순수한 사랑의 열매입니다. 하지만 헌신에는 보상이 따라옵니다. 하나님의 큰 은혜가 따라옵니다. 하나님의 큰 복이 따라옵니다. 이것이 헌신의 역설입니다. 아무 조건 없이 헌신했는데 그 결과는 놀라운 축복으로 결론을 맺습니다. 헌신은 풍성한 축복으로 들어가는 문입니다.

첫째, 헌신은 새로운 차원으로 들어가는 축복의 문입니다. 아브라함은 하나님이 지시하신 땅으로 가기 위해 순종했습니다(히 11:8). 헌신은 순종을 낳습니다. 75세의 나이에 가나안 땅을 향해 순종의 첫 발걸음을 내 딛는 순간 그의 미래는 놀랍게 변화되었습니다. 그는 우상 숭배자에서 믿음의 조상으로 변화되었습니다(롬 4:18). 아브라함이 하나님께 이삭을 번제로 바치는 헌신은 고통스런 헌신이었습니다. 하지만 아브라함은 하나님의 선하신 뜻을 신뢰했습니다. 아브라함이 하나님을 신뢰함으로 이삭을 바쳤을 때 그는 새로운 차원 속으로 들어가게 됩니다. 그는 하나님이 예비하신 숫양을 만납니다. 거기서 이삭을 대신해서 죽는 숫양을 통해 대속의 은혜를 깨닫게 됩니다. 그 숫양은 장차 오실 예수님을 예표했습니다(요 8:56).

둘째, 헌신은 새로운 만남으로 들어가는 축복의 문입니다. 모압 여인 룻은 젊은 나이에 과부가 되었습니다. 룻은 시어머니, 나오미가 고향 집으로 돌아가 모압 남자를 만나 결혼해서 살라는 권면을 거절합니다. 그 대신 시어머니를 공경하고 시어머니의 하나님을 믿기로 헌신합니다. 룻은 아는 사람이 아무도 없는 베들레헴을 향해 시어머니를 좇아 떠납니다. 시어머니의 하나님을 신뢰하며 베들레헴에 들어갑니다. 아브라함이 가나안 땅을 향해 내딛은 첫 발걸음처럼, 룻이 베들레헴을 향해 내딛은 첫 발걸음이 그녀의 미래를 바꾸어 놓았습니다. 룻은 헌신을 통해 새로운 만남의 복을 받게 됩니다. 그녀는 보아스를 만나서 결혼하게 됩니다. 두 사람 사이에서 오벳을 낳게 됩니다(룻 4:17). 오벳의 후손으로 다윗이 태어나고, 다윗의 후손으로 예수님이 태어납니다. 룻은 헌신을 통해 예수님의 족보에 그녀의 이름이 들어가는 영광을 누리게 됩니다(마 1:5).

셋째, 헌신은 작은 것이 풍성해 지는 은혜를 경험하는 축복의 문입니다. 사르밧 과부의 헌신의 이야기는 아름다운 이야기입니다. 하지만 그녀의 헌신은 쉬운 것이 아니었습니다. 엘리야는 그녀에게 떡 한 조각과 마실 물을 부탁했습니다. 그녀는 통의 마지막 가루와 병의 마지막 기름으로 떡 하나를 만들어 아들과 함께 먹고 죽을 계획이었습니다. 바로 그 떡을 엘리야에게 드린 것입니다. 그 헌신을 통해 그녀는 삼 년 육 개월 동안 통의 가루와 병의 기름이 떨어지지 않는 축복을 받았습니다(왕상 17:16). 오병이어를 예수님께 바친 어린 아이의 헌신을 통해 수많은 사람들이 배불리 먹는 풍성한 복을 받았습니다. 헌신은 작은 것을 풍성케 만드는 능력입니다.

넷째, 헌신은 풍성한 열매를 맺는 축복의 문입니다. 예수님은 한 알의 밀알처럼 헌신하심으로 인류 구원의 풍성한 열매를 맺으셨습니다. “내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 한 알의 밀이 땅에 떨어져 죽지 아니하면 한 알 그대로 있고 죽으면 많은 열매를 맺느니라”(요 12:24). 사도 바울의 생애는 헌신의 생애였습니다. 바울은 예수님께 받은 사명을 완수하기 위해 자기 생명을 내어놓았습니다. “내가 달려갈 길과 주 예수께 받은 사명 곧 하나님의 은혜의 복음을 증언하는 일을 마치려 함에는 나의 생명조차 조금도 귀한 것으로 여기지 아니하노라”(행 20:24). 그가 사명을 완수하기 위하여 로마를 향해 떠났던 헌신은 풍성한 열매를 맺었습니다. 그는 죄수의 몸으로 로마에서 복음을 전함으로 세계복음화의 사명을 완수했습니다. 또한 그가 로마 옥중에서 남긴 옥중서신은 그리스도인들에게 보석과 같은 서신이 되었습니다.

헌신에는 희생이 따릅니다. 하지만 깊이 생각해 보면 헌신은 희생이라기보다 특권입니다. 축복의 기회입니다. 자신뿐만 아니라 후손을 복되게 하는 기회입니다. 아브라함의 헌신, 룻의 헌신을 통해 수많은 후손이 대대로 복을 받게 되었습니다. 예수님의 헌신을 통해 전 인류가 영생에 이르는 복을 받게 되었습니다. 헌신에서 중요한 것은 적합한 때입니다. 하나님이 부르신 때, 하나님이 명하신 때에 헌신할 때 빛을 발하게 됩니다. 예수님을 위해 옥합을 깨뜨린 여인의 헌신은, 때를 분별할 줄 알았던 헌신이었습니다. 예수님은 가장 적합한 때에 십자가에서 죽으시고 부활하셨습니다. 어느 때부터인가 헌신이란 단어는 잊혀진 단어가 되었습니다. 우리는 헌신이라는 잊혀진 단어를 부활시켜야 합니다. 헌신을 통해 하나님이 예비하신 풍성한 복을 받아 누리시길 빕니다.

The Blessing of Devotion is Abundant!

The power of devotion is great. The power of devotion is the power to change our future. The stories of the Bible are the stories of devoted people. God values devotion. God considers devotion as being good and beautiful. God has prepared abundant blessings for those who are devoted. Devotion is pure love. The most beautiful devotion is when nothing is asked for. Pure devotion is the fruit of pure love. But devotion comes with rewards. God's great grace follows. God's great blessings follow. This is the paradox of devotion. He devoted himself without any conditions, and the result is a wonderful blessing. Devotion is the door to abundant blessings.

First, devotion is the door to blessing into a new dimension. Abraham obeyed to go to the land God had directed him to go to (Hebrews 11:8). Devotion produces obedience. The moment he took the first step of obedience toward the land of Canaan at the age of 75, his future changed dramatically. He was changed from an idolater to a father of faith (Romans 4:18). Abraham's devotion to offering Isaac as a burnt offering to God was a painful devotion. But Abraham trusted in the good will of God. When Abraham offered Isaac by trusting in God, he entered into a new dimension. He then saw the ram that God prepared for him. There he realized the grace of the redemption through the ram that dies in Isaac's place. The ram foreshadowed Jesus who was to come (John 8:56).

Second, devotion is the door of blessing that leads to new encounters. Ruth, a Moabite woman, became a widow at a young age. Ruth rejected the advice of that her mother-in-law, Naomi, to return to her hometown, where she should marry a Moabite man and live. Instead, she dedicated herself to honoring her mother-in-law and believing in her mother-in-law's God. Ruth followed her mother-in-law and went to Bethlehem, where she knew no one. She trusted her mother-in-law's God and entered Bethlehem. Like Abraham's first step toward the land of Canaan, Ruth's first step toward Bethlehem changed her future. Ruth was blessed with her new encounter through her devotion. She met Boaz and got married. She gave birth to Obed (Ruth 4:17). David was born as a descendant of Obed, and Jesus was born as a descendant of David. Through her devotion, Ruth was honored to have her name included in the genealogy of Jesus (Matthew 1:5).

Third, devotion was the door of blessing to experience the grace that small things become abundant. The story of the devotion of Zarephath, a widow, is a beautiful story. But her devotion was not easy. Elijah asked her for a piece of bread and water to drink. She planned to make a meal for Elijah from the last bit of flour in the jar and the last oil in the jug and eat and die with her son. It was her last bread that she offered to Elijah. Through that devotion, she was blessed with a jar of flour and a jug of oil that did not run out for three years and six months (1 Kings 17:16). Also, through the devotion of a young child who offered his five fish and two loaves of bread to Jesus, many people were blessed with abundant food. Devotion has the power to enrich the little things.

Fourth, devotion is the door of blessing that bears abundant fruit. By devoting himself like a grain of wheat, Jesus produced abundant fruit for the salvation of mankind. “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds” (John 12:24). The life of the apostle Paul was a life of devotion. Paul laid down his life to fulfill the mission he received from Jesus. “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace” (Acts 20:24). His devotion to fulfill his mission in Rome produced abundant fruit. He fulfilled the mission of world evangelization by preaching the gospel in Rome as a prisoner. In addition, the prison epistles he left behind while he was in the Roman prison have become like treasures to Christians.

Devotion comes with sacrifice. But if you think about it, devotion is a privilege rather than a sacrifice. It is an opportunity to be blessed. It is an opportunity to bless not only yourself but also your descendants. Through Abraham's devotion and Ruth's devotion, countless descendants have been blessed for generations. Through the devotion of Jesus, all mankind received the blessing of eternal life. The key to devotion is the right time. When God calls you, when God commands you to devote yourself, you will shine. The devotion of the woman who broke the alabaster jar for Jesus knew how to discern the importance of times. Jesus died on the cross and rose again at the most appropriate time. At some point, the word devotion became a forgotten word. We need to resurrect the forgotten word of dedication. I hope that you will receive and enjoy the abundant blessings that God has prepared for you through your devotion.
