[목회서신] 세 가지를 평생 배우고 싶습니다! | I Want to Learn These Three Things in My Lifetime!

복 있는 사람은 배우는 것을 즐거워하는 사람입니다. 하나님은 우리가 배움의 즐거움을 알고 누리길 원하십니다. 하나님이 배움을 소중히 여기시는 이유가 있습니다. 그 이유는 배움을 통해 발전할 수 있기 때문입니다. 어제와 다른 미래를 꿈꿀 수 있기 때문입니다. 하나님이 애굽에서 종살이하던 히브리 민족을 배움을 통해 위대한 민족으로 만드셨습니다. 우리 민족도 세계적인 민족이 된 것은 배움을 통해서입니다. 우리는 배움을 통해 성장하고 성숙하고 원숙해집니다. 배움을 통해 아름다운 관계를 맺게 됩니다. 배움을 통해 아름다운 성품을 형성하게 됩니다. 배움을 통해 내면의 부요를 누릴 수 있게 됩니다. 또한 배움을 통해 우리가 만나는 사람들의 생애를 부요케 할 수 있습니다.

진정한 배움은 우리에게 머무는 것이 아니라 우리를 통해 전수됩니다. 그런 면에서 배움은 나눔입니다. 우리가 배운 것을 나눌 때 배움의 즐거움은 배가 됩니다. 우리가 배운 보석 같은 지식과 지혜와 기술을 전수해 주는 기쁨은 큰 기쁨입니다. 또한 우리가 배운 것을 전수 받은 사람이 성장하는 것을 보는 기쁨은 큰 기쁨입니다. 안병욱 교수님은 배움의 중요성을 다음과 같이 강조합니다. “인간의 행동 중에서 가장 바람직한 행동은 배우는 행동이다. 세상에 배운다는 행동처럼 생산적이고 건설적이고 창조적인 행동이 없다. 인간의 일생은 교육의 일생이요, 인간의 생애는 학습의 생애다. 우리는 날마다 배우고 죽는 날까지 학습해야 한다. 인간은 배워야만 진보하고 향상하고 발전한다.”(안병욱, 『논어인생론』, 자유문학사, 31쪽).

저는 배울 때 즐겁습니다. 또한 배운 것을 나눌 때 즐겁습니다. 그래서 날마다 배우고, 날마다 배운 것을 나누길 원합니다. 제가 매주 쓰는 목회서신은 제가 배운 것을 성도님들과 나누는 은총의 도구입니다. 저는 많은 것을 배우기 원하지만 특별히 세 가지를 평생 배우고 싶습니다.

첫째, 성경을 평생 배우고 싶습니다. 성경은 하나님의 말씀입니다. 하나님의 말씀은 영혼의 양식입니다. 우리는 영혼의 양식인 하나님의 말씀을 먹음으로 영적으로 성장하게 됩니다(벧전 2:2). 하나님의 말씀 속에 하나님을 아는 지식이 담겨 있습니다. 하나님의 말씀 속에 하나님의 지혜가 담겨 있습니다. 하나님의 말씀 속에 하나님의 약속과 하나님의 도가 담겨 있습니다.

하나님의 말씀은 살아 역사하는 능력입니다(히 4:12). 우리가 하나님의 말씀을 배울 때 말씀이 우리 안에서 살아 역사하게 됩니다. 말씀이 우리를 변화시키고, 성장시키고, 치유합니다. 세상의 모든 지식이 변하고 사라져도 복음의 말씀은 영원합니다. “풀은 마르고 꽃은 떨어지되 오직 주의 말씀은 세세토록 있도다 하였으니 너희에게 전한 복음이 곧 이 말씀이니라”(벧전 1:24하-25). 성경을 혼자 공부할 때는 성령님을 스승 삼아 공부하십시오. 또한 목회자들을 통해 성경을 배우는 것은 지혜로운 일입니다. 목회자들은 성경을 연구하는 학자들입니다. 성경 교사들입니다. 그래서 목회자들을 통해 성경을 배우면 더욱 잘 배울 수 있습니다.

둘째, 기도를 평생 배우고 싶습니다. 기도처럼 신비로운 것은 없습니다. 그 이유는 하나님이신 예수님과 성령님도 기도하시기 때문입니다(롬 8:34, 26-27). 기도는 천국 열쇠입니다. 성경을 공부하게 되면 우리는 기도에 대한 약속을 자주 만나게 됩니다. 우리는 기도를 통해 능력을 받게 됩니다(시 105:4, 행 1:8). 기도를 통해 지혜를 얻게 됩니다(약 1:5). 기도를 통해 병고침을 받게 됩니다(약 5:14). 기도를 통해 놀라운 기적을 경험하게 됩니다. 모세가 기도할 때 홍해가 열렸습니다. 엘리야가 기도할 때 하늘에서 불이 임하고 비가 임했습니다. 예수님이 기도하실 때 오병이어의 기적이 임했습니다. 죽은 나사로가 다시 살아났습니다. 무엇보다 기도를 통해 우리는 예수님과 친밀한 교제를 나누게 됩니다. 저는 깊은 기도를 드리기 위해 성경에 나오는 기도를 공부합니다. 깊은 기도를 드렸던 영성가들의 책을 읽으면서 기도를 배웁니다. 무엇보다 기도하면서 기도를 배웁니다.

셋째, 사랑을 평생 배우고 싶습니다. 하나님은 사랑이십니다. 하나님은 우리가 서로 사랑하며 살기 원하십니다(요 13:34-35). 하나님의 나라는 사랑의 나라입니다. 사랑하면 천국을 맛보게 됩니다. 사랑도 배워야 합니다. 우리는 보고 배우고 경험한 만큼 사랑할 수 있습니다. 우리는 예수님을 통해 사랑을 배웁니다. 또한 사랑의 사람들을 통해 사랑을 배웁니다. 사랑은 거대한 에너지입니다. 우리는 사랑 때문에 즐거워하고, 사랑 때문에 아파합니다. 사랑은 배우고 익혀야 할 예술입니다. 사랑을 평생 배워야 하는 까닭은 사랑이 가장 소중하고 영원한 까닭입니다. “그런즉 믿음, 소망, 사랑, 이 세 가지는 항상 있을 것인데 그 중의 제일은 사랑이라”(고전 13:13). 우리 함께 성경과 기도와 사랑을 평생토록 배우도록 합시다.

I Want to Learn These Three Things in My Lifetime!

Blessed are those who enjoy learning. God wants us to know and enjoy the joy of learning. There is a reason why God cherishes learning. The reason is because you can blossom through learning. Because you can dream of a different future from yesterday. God made the Hebrew people, who were slaves in Egypt, into a great nation through learning. It is through learning that our nation has become a global nation. We grow, mature, and fully ripen through learning. Through learning, we will build beautiful relationships. Through learning, a beautiful character is formed. Learning allows you to enjoy inner wealth. Learning can also enrich the lives of the people we meet.

True learning does not stay with us, it is passed on through us. In that sense, learning is sharing. The joy of learning is multiplied when we share what we learn. It is great joy to pass on the jewels of knowledge, wisdom and skills we have learned. Also, it is great joy to see people grow from being taught what we have learned. Professor Ahn Byung-wook emphasizes the importance of learning as follows. “The most desirable behavior among human behavior is the behavior of learning. There is no more productive, constructive, creative act in the world than the act of learning. A human life is a life of education, and a human life is a life of learning. We must learn every day and study until the day we die. Humans must learn to advance, improve, and develop” (Ahn Byeong-wook, 『The Analects of Life』, Freedom Literature, p. 31).

I enjoy learning. I also enjoy sharing what I have learned. So I want to learn every day and share what I have learned every day. The pastoral letter I write every week is a tool of grace to share what I have learned with you. I want to learn many things, but especially three things in my lifetime.

First, I want to learn about the Bible for the rest of my life. The Bible is the Word of God. The Word of God is food for the soul. We grow spiritually by eating the Word of God, which is the food of our souls (1 Peter 2:2). The knowledge of God is contained in the Word of God. God's wisdom is contained in God's Word. God's promise and God's way are contained in God's Word.

The Word of God is living and an active power (Hebrews 4:12). When we learn the Word of God, the Word lives and works in us. The Word transforms, grows, and heals us. Even if all the knowledge of the world changes and disappears, the Word of the gospel is eternal. “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the Word that was preached to you” (1 Peter 1:24b-25). When studying the Bible alone, study with the Holy Spirit as your teacher. Also, it is wise to learn the Bible through pastors. Pastors are scholars who study the Bible. Bible teachers. So, if you learn the Bible through pastors, you can learn better.

Second, I want to learn prayer for the rest of my life. There is nothing as mysterious as prayer. This is because Jesus, who is God, and the Holy Spirit also prayed (Romans 8:34, 26-27). Prayer is the key to heaven. As we study the Bible, we often encounter promises of prayer. We receive power through prayer (Psalm 105:4; Acts 1:8). We gain wisdom through prayer (James 1:5). We will be healed through prayer (James 5:14). Through prayer, we will experience amazing miracles. When Moses prayed, the Red Sea was opened. As Elijah prayed, fire and rain fell from heaven. When Jesus prayed, the miracle of feeding the five thousand happened. Lazarus who was dead came back to life. Above all, through prayer, we have an intimate fellowship with Jesus. I study the prayers found in the Bible to offer deep prayers. I learn how to pray by reading the books of mystics who prayed deeply. Above all, I learn how to pray while praying.

Third, I want to learn to love for the rest of my life. God is love. God wants us to love one another and live (John 13:34-35). The kingdom of God is a kingdom of love. If you love, you will taste heaven. You must learn how to love. We can love as much as we see, learn, and experience. We learn how to love through Jesus. We also learn how to love through loving people. Love is a huge energy. We rejoice because of love, and we suffer because of love. Love is an art to learn and master. The reason you must learn to love for the rest of your life is because love is the most precious and eternal. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13). Let's learn the Bible, prayer, and love together throughout our lives.
