[목회서신] 제 생애 가장 소중한 것들 | The Most Precious Things in My Life
오늘은 홀로 조용한 밤을 맞이했습니다. 성도님들이 입원해 계시면, 자주 심방왔던 병원에, 제가 들어와 있습니다. 코로나 19로 인해 지난 일 년 동안 많이 긴장하며 지냈던 것 같습니다. 그래서 잠시 안식하는 시간을 병원에서 갖고 있습니다. 저는 비대면 예배를 드리기 시작하면서 성도님들을 말씀으로 흔들리지 않게 붙잡아 드려야겠다는 일념으로 지내 왔습니다. 힘들었지만 그렇게 살아온 하루하루가 큰 기쁨과 보람이었습니다.
비대면 예배 중에도 성도님들의 헌신이 눈물겨웠습니다. 교회가 힘들어지면 안 된다는 마음으로 아낌없는 헌신과 헌금을 해 주셨습니다. 정말 한 주 한 주가 기적의 연속이었습니다. 어려움 중에 하나님의 은혜는 풍성했습니다. 많은 변화에도 성도님들께서 잘 적응해 주셨습니다. 처음 경험해 보는 온라인 예배와 줌으로 드리는 수요심야기도회 등 다양한 모임에 탁월하게 반응해 주셨습니다. 말씀과 기도로 훈련된 성도님들의 저력을 볼 수 있어 행복했습니다. 홀로 조용히 하루를 지내면서 제 생애에 가장 소중한 것이 무엇인지 다시 한번 생각해 보게 되었습니다.
첫째, 제 생애에 가장 소중한 분은 예수님이십니다. 예수님은 저의 생명의 주인이십니다. 생명의 주관자이십니다. 저는 예수님을 통해 구원을 받았습니다. 예수님을 통해 하나님 아버지와 성령 하나님을 만났습니다. 예수님은 길이요 진리요 생명이십니다(요 14:6). 저는 예수님을 통해 성경을 만났습니다. 하나님의 말씀의 능력을 경험했습니다. 예수님을 통해 기도의 능력을 경험했습니다. 예수님의 이름으로 기도하는 중에 수많은 기도 응답을 받았습니다. 저는 예수님을 통해 주님의 영광스런 교회를 만났습니다. 영광스런 주님의 교회의 일꾼이 되었습니다.
둘째, 제 생애 가장 소중한 것은 가족입니다. 가족보다 소중한 것은 없습니다. 제가 한 때 영의 아버지처럼 모셨던 고 이병돈 목사님께서 공항에서 제게 남겨 주신 말씀이 오래 기억됩니다. “가장 마지막 남는 것은 사모입니다.” 제 아내를 잘 돌보라는 권면의 말씀이셨습니다. 가족은 가장 소중하면서도 가장 많은 아픔을 주는 관계가 되기도 합니다. 그래서 가족과의 사랑을 가꾸는 일에 노력을 기울여야 합니다. 행복한 가정은 저절로 세워지지 않습니다. 사랑과 헌신과 존중과 섬김으로 세워 집니다. 눈물 어린 기도로 세워 집니다. 보배 같은 자녀들을 말씀과 기도로 양육하는 것이 선교입니다. 제게는 육신의 가족 이상으로 소중한 가족들이 있습니다. 예수님을 통해 만난 가족들입니다. 하나님의 가족들입니다. 때로는 육신의 가족보다 더 깊은 사랑을 나누게 됩니다. 그 이유는 예수님의 보혈과 성령님을 함께 받았기 때문입니다.
셋째, 제 생애 가장 소중한 것은 사명입니다. 소명이란 부름을 받은 것입니다. 하나님의 선택을 받고 부르심을 받은 것이 소명입니다. 사명이란 보내심을 받은 것입니다. 이 땅에 보내신 하나님의 심부름을 감당하는 것이 사명입니다. 사명은 각자가 다릅니다. 사명은 우리가 완수해야 할 일입니다. 사명은 곧 우리가 해야 할 일과 관련되어 있습니다. 예수님은 하나님 아버지께서 맡기신 일을 이루어 아버지를 영화롭게 하셨습니다(요 17:4). 하나님은 일하시는 하나님이십니다. 하나님은 우리 각자에게 일을 맡기시는 분입니다. 사명은 사람마다 다 다릅니다.
오늘도 환자들을 섬기시는 의사 선생님들과 간호사님들, 그리고 약사님들을 만나면서 감동을 받았습니다. 또한 음식을 준비해 주시는 분들과 청소하시는 분들의 헌신에 감동을 받았습니다. 죄를 짓지 않는 모든 일은 성직입니다. 마르틴 루터와 종교개혁자들의 주장입니다. 그래서 저는 성도님들이 하시는 모든 일이 성직이라 믿고 있습니다. 다만 제게 주어진 사명은 목회입니다. 그래서 저는 목양일념으로 살아 왔습니다. 제게 맡겨주신 목회직을 위해 헌신했습니다.
사람마다 가장 소중한 것이 각각 다를 수 있습니다. 다만 제게 있어 가장 소중한 것들을 함께 나누었습니다. 부족한 종의 글을 아껴 읽어 주시는 한 분 한 분에게 진심으로 감사드립니다.

The Most Precious Things in My Life
Today was a quiet night, being alone. I am in the hospital where I often visited whenever our saints were in the hospital. I think I have been very nervous over the past year due to COVID-19. Therefore, I am taking time to rest at the hospital. As we began online worship, I have lived with the conviction that I have to help our saints be unshakable in the Word. It was hard, but each day was a great joy and reward.
Even during online worship, the devotion of our saints was touching. They gave generous dedication and donations with their hearts so that the church should not be difficult. Week by week was truly a miracle. During the difficulties, God's grace was abundant. The saints have adapted well to the many changes. They responded excellently to various gatherings, such as online worship that was experienced for the first time, and Wednesday late-night prayer meetings through Zoom. I was happy to see the potential of our saints trained in the Word and prayer. As I spent today, alone, in the quiet, I thought again about what was most precious to me in my life.
First, the most precious person in my life is Jesus. Jesus is the master of my life. He is the author of life. I was saved through Jesus. I met God, the Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit through Jesus. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). I was introduced to the Bible through Jesus. I experienced the power of God's Word. I experienced the power of prayer through Jesus. While praying in the name of Jesus, I received lots of answers. I met the glorious church of the Lord through Jesus. I became a laborer for the Lord’s glorious Church.
Second, the most important thing in my life is my family. There is nothing more precious than family. I still remember the words of what the late Pastor Byung-Don Lee said as he left the airport, whom I viewed as my spiritual father. “The last thing that remains is your wife.” He was encouraging me to take good care of my wife. Family is the most precious, yet it can become the most painful relationship. That's why you have to put effort into cultivating love with your family. Happy families are not built by themselves. They are built with love, dedication, respect, and service. They are built with tearful prayers. It’s a ministry to nurture precious children through the Word and prayer. I have families that are more precious than my physical family. These are the families I met through Jesus. They are God's family. Sometimes we have a deeper love than our physical family. The reason is that we received the blood of Jesus and the Holy Spirit together.
Third, the most important thing in my life is my calling. A calling means being called. It is a calling to be chosen and called by God. A calling means to be sent. It is our mission to bear the errands of God who sent us to this earth. Each of us have different missions. The mission is what we need to accomplish. The mission is about what we must do. Jesus glorified His Father by doing what the Heavenly Father entrusted him to do (John 17:4). God is a working God. God is the one who entrusted His work to each of us. Each person has a different mission.
Today, I was touched as I met doctors, nurses, and pharmacists who served patients. I was also impressed by the dedication of the people who prepared the food and the people who cleaned. Every job that is not sinful is a sacred vocation. This is the argument of Martin Luther and the Reformers. That's why I believe that everything you do is a sacred vocation. However, the mission given to me is pastoring the church. So, I have lived with the pastoral spirit. I have devoted myself to the pastoring vocation that was entrusted to me.
Each person may have different things that are most precious to them. I have just shared what the most precious things were to me. I sincerely appreciate each and every one of you for carefully reading the writings of this lacking servant.
