[목회서신] 좋은 것을 좋아하는 지혜 | The Wisdom of Loving Good Things
좋은 것을 좋아하는 사람은 지혜로운 사람입니다. 우리가 경험하는 것처럼 좋은 것이 있고 나쁜 것이 있습니다. 우리는 사람에 대해서도, 조심스러운 표현이지만 좋은 사람이 있고 나쁜 사람이 있다고 말합니다. 부모는 자녀에게 좋은 사람은 가까이하고 나쁜 사람은 멀리하라고 가르칩니다. 지혜는 분별력에 있습니다. 좋은 것과 좋은 사람을 알아보고, 나쁜 것과 나쁜 사람을 알아보는 분별력은 아주 중요합니다. 하나님은 좋으신 분입니다. 좋으신 하나님이 좋은 것을 주심으로 우리 인생을 풍요롭게 하십니다. “좋은 것으로 네 소원을 만족하게 하사 네 청춘을 독수리 같이 새롭게 하시는도다”(시 103:5). “그가 사모하는 영혼에게 만족을 주시며 주린 영혼에게 좋은 것으로 채워주심이로다”(시 107:9). 하나님은 모든 좋은 것을 소유하신 까닭에 좋은 것을 주십니다.
우리는 누구나 자기가 소유한 것을 줍니다. 좋은 것을 소유한 사람은 좋은 것을 줍니다. 나쁜 것을 소유한 사람은 나쁜 것을 줍니다. 좋은 언어를 소유한 사람은 좋은 언어로 사람들을 감동시킵니다. 좋은 언어로 사람들을 세워줍니다. 좋은 언어로 소망을 줍니다. 좋은 언어는 칭찬의 언어입니다. 격려의 언어입니다. 감사의 언어입니다. 반면에 나쁜 언어를 소유한 사람은 나쁜 언어로 사람들에게 상처를 줍니다. 사람들을 절망시킵니다. 욕은 나쁜 언어입니다. 무익한 언어입니다. 멸시하는 언어는 나쁜 언어입니다. 불평하는 언어와 원망하는 언어는 우리가 삼가야 할 언어입니다. 예수님은 “선한 사람은 마음에 쌓은 선에서 선을 내고 악한 자는 그 쌓은 악에서 악을 내나니 이는 마음에 가득한 것을 입으로 말함이니라”(눅 6:45)고 말씀합니다. 마음속에 좋은 것을 쌓는 것이 지혜입니다. 좋은 언어를 마음에 쌓게 되면 좋은 언어가 우리 입에서 흘러나오게 됩니다.
좋은 것은 우리를 행복하게 만듭니다. 좋은 것은 우리를 든든히 세워줍니다. 나쁜 것은 우리를 불행하게 만듭니다. 나쁜 것은 우리를 무너뜨립니다. 좋은 것은 잠재력을 극대화합니다. 나쁜 것은 잠재력을 소멸시킵니다. 그렇다면 성경에서 가르쳐 주는 가장 좋은 것은 무엇일까요?
첫째, 복음이 가장 좋은 것입니다. 복음은 좋은 소식, 복된 소식입니다. 복음은 예수님이 우리 죄를 대신 담당하기 위해 십자가에 못 박혀 죽으신 소식입니다. 예수님은 죽으실 뿐 아니라 사흘 만에 부활하셨습니다(고전 15:1-3). 좋은 소식은 우리들의 이야기가 아닙니다. 예수님의 이야기입니다. 예수님께서 우리를 대신해서 죄 짐을 지시고 우리가 받아야 할 심판과 저주와 형벌과 정죄를 받으신 이야기입니다. 또한 우리에게 예수님의 의와 거룩을 전가해 주신 이야기입니다. 복음은 하나님이 누구에게나 값없이 주시는 선물입니다. 복음에는 차별이 없습니다. 누구든지 예수님을 믿기만 하면 영생을 얻습니다. 재산의 유무와 학벌의 유무와 상관이 없습니다. 우리의 교양과 도덕과 수양과도 상관이 없습니다. 누구든지 예수님을 믿으면 구원을 얻습니다. 하나님이 선물로 주신 구원 속에는 하나님이 담아 두신 풍성한 선물들이 담겨 있습니다.
둘째, 성령님이 가장 좋으신 분입니다. 예수님은 하나님 아버지께서 구하는 자에게 좋은 것을 주신다고 말씀하십니다(마 7:11). 누가복음은 예수님이 말씀하신 좋은 것이 성령님이라고 가르쳐 줍니다. “너희 하늘 아버지께서 구하는 자에게 성령을 주시지 않겠느냐 하시니라”(눅 11:13하). 성령님 안에 모든 좋은 것이 담겨 있습니다. 성령님은 지혜와 총명의 영이요, 모략과 재능의 영이요, 지식과 여호와를 경외하는 영이십니다(사 11:2). 성령님은 우리에게 필요한 모든 것을 소유하고 계십니다. 어떻게 성령님을 우리 안에 모실 수 있을까요? 우리가 예수님을 개인의 구주로 영접하는 순간 성령님이 우리 안에 들어오시게 됩니다. 어떻게 성령님이 우리 안에 거하시는 줄을 알 수 있을까요? 우리가 예수님을 주라고 고백한다면 성령님이 우리 안에 들어와 계신 것을 알 수 있습니다. “성령으로 아니하고는 누구든지 예수를 주시라 할 수 없느니라”(고전 12:3하). 또한 하나님을 아바 아버지라고 부른다면 성령님이 우리 안에 거하시는 것을 알 수 있습니다. “너희는 다시 무서워하는 종의 영을 받지 아니하고 양자의 영을 받았으므로 우리가 아빠 아버지라고 부르짖느니라”(롬 8:15). 성령님을 모신 우리는 성령님을 환영하고 성령님을 의지해야 합니다. 성령님의 인도를 받기 위해 날마다 기도해야 합니다. 그때 성령님은 날마다 우리에게 필요한 지혜와 능력을 베풀어 주십니다.
좋은 것을 좋아하는 것이 지혜임을 기억하십시오. 그 이유는 우리가 좋아하는 것이 우리에게 머물기 때문입니다. 우리가 좋아하는 것을 우리가 누리고 나눌 수 있기 때문입니다. 좋으신 하나님, 좋은 소식인 복음, 좋으신 성령님을 좋아하십시오. 예수님 안에서 좋은 사람이 되어 좋은 것들을 풍성히 나누어 주는 사람이 되시길 빕니다. 서 상대방의 아픔을 공감해 주는 것이 필요합니다. 말을 잘하는 길은 경청에 있습니다. 경청을 통해 상대방의 감정과 상대방의 언어를 이해하게 됩니다. 상대방을 이해하게 되면 적절한 대화를 나눌 수 있게 됩니다.
말을 잘하기 위해서는 신중해야 합니다. 말을 할 때 진실한 말인지, 필요한 말인지, 유익이 되는 말인지를 생각해야 합니다. 말에도 온도가 있습니다. 따뜻한 말이 좋습니다. 격려의 말, 칭찬의 말, 감사의 말, 다정한 말, 긍정의 말, 덕을 세우는 말이 좋습니다. 말투도 중요합니다. 사랑스런 말투, 겸손한 말투도 대화에 큰 영향을 끼칩니다. 말을 잘하는 법을 계속 배우고 익히십시오. 말을 많이 하는 사람이 되기보다 말을 잘하는 사람이 되십시오.

The Wisdom of Loving Good Things
A person who likes good things is a wise person. There are good things and bad things, as we have all experienced. We also carefully say that there are good people and bad people. Parents teach their children to stay close to good people and to stay away from bad people. Wisdom lies in discernment. The ability to discern between good and bad things and between good and bad people is very important. God is good. A good God enriches our lives by giving good things. “(God) satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:5). “For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things” (Psalm 107:9). God gives good things because he possesses all good things.
We all give what we possess. Those who have good things can give good things. Those who possess bad things can only give bad things. Those with a good language impress people with a good language. They build others up with good language. They give hope with good language. Good language is a language of praise. It is a language of encouragement. It is the language of gratitude. On the other hand, those who possess bad language hurt people with their bad language. They make other people despair. Cursing is bad language. It's a useless language. Language that despises is bad language. The language of complaining and blaming are languages we should refrain from using. Jesus said, “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). It is wise to accumulate good things in your heart. If we build up good language in our hearts, good language will flow out of our mouths.
Good things make us happy. Good things keep us strong. Bad things make us unhappy. Bad things break us. Good things maximize your potential. Bad things kill potential. So, what is the best thing the Bible teaches?
First, the gospel is the best thing. The gospel is good news and blessed news. The gospel is the news for which Jesus died on the cross - to bear the sins on our behalf. Jesus not only died but resurrected after the third day (1 Corinthians 15:1-3). The good news is not our story. It is the story of Jesus Christ. It is the story of Jesus bearing the burden of sin on our behalf and receiving the judgment, curse, punishment, and condemnation we deserved. It is also the story of imputing the righteousness and holiness of Jesus to us. The gospel is a free gift from God to everyone. There is no discrimination in the gospel. Anyone who believes in Jesus will have eternal life. It has nothing to do with wealth or education. It has nothing to do with our manners, morals, or discipline. Anyone who believes in Jesus will be saved. The salvation that God has given as a gift contains the abundant gifts that God has put into it.
Second, the Holy Spirit is the best person. Jesus says that God the Father gives good things to those who ask (Matthew 7:11). The Gospel of Luke teaches that the good thing Jesus referred to is the Holy Spirit. “How much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13) All good things are contained in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the spirit of counsel and of power, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2). The Holy Spirit has everything we need. How can we invite the Holy Spirit? The moment we accept Jesus as our personal Savior, the Holy Spirit comes upon us. How can we know that the Holy Spirit dwells in us? If we confess that Jesus is Lord, we can know that the Holy Spirit has come into us. “No one can say that ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:3b). Also, if we call God Abba Father, we can know that the Holy Spirit dwells in us. “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father’” (Romans 8:15). We who have the Holy Spirit must welcome the Holy Spirit and depend on the Holy Spirit. We must pray daily to receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Then the Holy Spirit gives us the wisdom and the power we need every day.
Remember that loving the good is wise. The reason is because what we love stays with us. It is because we can enjoy and share what we love. Love the good God, the good news, the gospel, and the good Holy Spirit. I hope that you will become a good person in Jesus Christ and a person who share good things abundantly.
