[목회서신] 죄인을 신부로 맞이하기 위해 오신 예수님 | Jesus Came to Welcome Sinners as Brides

예수님의 성탄을 묵상하면서 예수님의 겸손을 배웁니다. 인간은 겸손할 수 밖에 없는 존재인데 교만합니다. 하나님이 호흡을 거두시면 모든 것을 두고 이 땅을 떠나야 하는 존재인데 오만합니다. 작은 코로나 바이러스 앞에 쩔쩔맬 수밖에 없는 존재인데 마치 전능한 존재인 것처럼 허세를 부립니다. 반면에 전능하신 예수님은 자신을 비어 종의 형체를 입으셨습니다(빌 2:7). 우리는 예수님에게서 겸손을 배우고 또 배워야 합니다.

예수님의 겸손은 작은 아기의 모습으로 오신데 있습니다. 천지를 창조하신 예수님이 작은 아기로 태어나셨습니다. 예수님은 작은 아기로 오셨고, 자신을 한 알의 밀알로 표현하셨습니다(요 12:24). 성탄을 통해 하나님이 작은 것 속에 담겨 두신 비밀을 깨달아야 합니다. 가장 위대한 것이 작은 것 속에 담겨 있습니다. 가장 소중한 것이 사소한 것 속에 담겨 있습니다. 하나님의 눈에는 사소한 것이 없습니다. 모두 소중한 것 뿐입니다. 왜냐하면 하나님은 바로 사소한 것 속에 무한한 가능성을 담아 두신 까닭입니다.

예수님의 겸손은 연약함에 있습니다. 예수님은 강한 모습이 아닌 연약한 모습으로 태어나셨습니다. 성경은 예수님을 연한 순에 비유합니다. “그는 주 앞에서 자라나기를 연한 순 같고”(사 53:2). 연한 순은 작은 순입니다. 연한 순은 푸릅니다. 푸르다는 것은 생명이 약동하고 있다는 것을 의미합니다. 푸른 순에는 무한한 미래가 담겨 있습니다. 푸른 순은 또 다른 순을 만들어냅니다. 푸른 순 속에 잎사귀가 담겨 있고, 아름다운 꽃이 담겨 있고, 풍성한 열매가 담겨 있습니다.

연한 순은 연약합니다. 연약함 속에 하나님의 신비가 담겨 있습니다. 연약함 속에 사람들의 사랑을 끌어오는 힘이 담겨 있습니다. 우리는 거친 사람을 두려워합니다. 멀리합니다. 반면에 연약한 사람에게서 사랑을 느낍니다. 연약한 사람을 보면 긍휼을 품게 됩니다. 가까이하게 됩니다. 사랑을 창조하는 힘은 연약함에 있습니다. 연약함 속에 부드러움이 있습니다. 부드러움이 유연함을 낳습니다. 강하면 부러지지만 유연하면 부러지지 않습니다. 연약함은 친밀한 사랑의 비밀입니다. 연약할 때 우리는 서로 의존합니다. 하나님과 연합하게 됩니다. 그때 우리는 풍성한 열매를 맺게 됩니다(요 15:5).

예수님의 겸손은 자신을 낮추심에 있습니다. 우리는 높아지길 원합니다. 하지만 인간은 끝없이 높아질 수 있는 존재가 아닙니다. 인간이 높아지면 얼마나 높아지겠습니까? 프랑크푸르트 한마음교회 이찬규목사님은 인생을 사다리를 타고 올라가는 것에 비유합니다. 사람이 사다리를 타고 높은 곳으로 올라간다면 얼마나 높이 올라갈 수 있을까요? 과연 100층 건물을 오를 수 있는 사다리가 있을까요? 높은 곳에 올라간 사람은 추락할 위험이 큽니다. 인간은 높은 곳으로 올라갈수록 불안합니다. 높은 곳에서 떨어질수록 위험합니다. 가장 안전한 곳은 낮은 곳입니다. 낮은 곳에 있다고 너무 아쉬워하지 마십시오. 낮은 곳에 평강이 있습니다. 낮은 곳에 감추인 보화가 있습니다. 낮은 곳에 놀라운 기회가 감추어져 있습니다.

하나님이 때로 시련을 통해 우리를 낮추시는 데는 이유가 있습니다. 계속 높은 곳을 향해 도전하는 것이 위험하기 때문입니다. 사람의 욕심은 끝이 없습니다. 조금 높아지면 더 높아지려고 합니다. 만족할 줄 모르는 것이 인간입니다. 멈출 줄 모르는 것이 인간입니다. 그래서 하나님이 때로 우리에게 고난을 허락하셔서 자세를 낮추게 하시고, 속도를 줄이고 잠시 멈추게 하십니다.

예수님의 겸손은 자신을 감추심에 있습니다. 예수님은 구유에 태어나심으로 자신을 감추셨습니다. 최인호작가는 그의 책 《유림》에서 가장 겸손한 사람의 모습을 잘 그려줍니다. 그 분은 높은 산과 같은 분인데 땅 아래 자신을 감추었다고 말합니다. 땅 아래 자신을 감춘 높은 산의 모습을 마음에 그려 보십시오. 높은 산인데 땅 아래 감춰진 산입니다. 그래서 보이지를 않습니다. 사람들이 알아보지 못합니다. 저는 그토록 겸손한 분은 예수님 밖에 없다고 생각합니다. 높은 산과 같은 예수님이 자신의 모습을 구유에 감추셨습니다(눅 2:7). 누가 하나님의 아들이 구유에 태어나실 것이라 생각했겠습니까? 그래서 사람들은 예수님을 알아보지 못했습니다.

예수님의 겸손은 소박함에 있습니다. 예수님은 세상적으로 대단한 사람들을 친구로 삼지 않으셨습니다. 예수님은 죄인과 세리를 친구로 삼으셨습니다(눅 7:34). 우리가 예수님께 가까이 나아갈 수 있는 이유는 우리가 죄인이기 때문입니다. 죄인이 아니면 예수님의 친구가 될 수 없습니다. 예수님의 사랑을 받을 수 없습니다. 예수님은 죄인을 찾아 구원하려고 오셨습니다. 예수님의 겸손의 절정은 창기와 같은 우리를 신부로 삼으신 것입니다. 우리를 예수님의 신부로 삼으신 후에 아름답고 흠이 없는 존재로 만드십니다(엡 5:27). 그래서 성탄은 우리에게 큰 기쁨입니다. 복된 성탄이 되시길 빕니다.

Jesus Came to Welcome Sinners as Brides

We learn the humility of Jesus while meditating on the Christmas of Jesus Christ. Although, humans should inevitably be humble, we are prideful. We leave this earth with everything behind when God takes our breathe away, but we are arrogant. We inevitably are shaken in front of the small coronavirus, but we pretend to be almighty. On the other hand, Almighty Jesus emptied himself and came in the form of a servant (Philippians 2:7). We must learn humility from Jesus again and again.

The humility of Jesus lies in coming in the form of a little baby. Jesus, who created the heavens and the earth, was born as a little baby. Jesus came as a little baby and expressed himself as a grain of wheat (John 12:24). Through Christmas, we must realize the mystery that God has contained in little things. The greatest things in life are contained in little things. The most precious things are contained in the little things. There is nothing trivial in God's eyes. Everything is just precious in his eyes. This is because God puts infinite potential in the little things.

Jesus' humility lies in weakness. Jesus was born weak, not strong. The Bible compares Jesus to a tender shoot. “He grew up before him like a tender shoot,” (Isaiah 53:2). A tender shoot is a small shoot. A tender shoot is green. Being green means that life is throbbing. There is an infinite future in the green shoot. Green shoots create other shoots. Leaves , beautiful flowers, and abundant fruits are contained in green shoots.

Tender shoots are weak. The mystery of God is contained in weakness. The power to attract people's love is contained in the weakness. We are afraid of rough people. We keep ourselves away from them. On the other hand, we feel love from a weak person. When we see a person who is weak, we have compassion. We go closer. The power to create love lies in weakness. There is tenderness in weakness. Tenderness produces flexibility. If it is strong, it will break, but if it is flexible it will not. Weakness is the secret of intimate love. When we are weak, we rely on each other. We become united in God. Then we will bear abundant fruit (John 15:5).

Jesus' humility lies in lowering oneself. We want to be lifted high. But humans are not beings that can be exalted endlessly. How high can humans rise? Pastor Chan-Gyu Lee of the Frankfurt Han-ma-eum Church compares life to climbing a ladder. How high can a person climb if he climbs a ladder to a high place? Is there a ladder that can climb a 100-story building? Anyone who climbs high places is at great risk of falling. Humans are more anxious as they climb higher. The higher you are and fall, the more dangerous it is. The safest place is the lower one. Don't be too disappointed to be in a low place. There is peace in the low place. There is a treasure hidden in the lower place. There are amazing opportunities hidden in the lower places.

There is a reason why God sometimes humbles us through trials. It is because it is dangerous to continue to challenge yourself to high places. A person's greed is endless. If we get to a high place, we try to go to an even higher place. It is human beings who don’t know how to be satisfied. Humans do not know how to stop. That is why God sometimes allows us to suffer so that we can lower our posture, slow down and stop for a moment.

Jesus' humility lies in hiding himself. Jesus hid himself by being born in a manger. Author In-ho Choi describes the humblest person in his book, “Yurim.” He is like a high mountain, but he hid himself under the ground. Picture in your mind a high mountain that hides itself under the ground. It is a high mountain, but it is a mountain hidden under the ground. So it can’t be seen. People don't recognize it. I think the only one who is that humble is Jesus. Jesus, who is like a high mountain, hid himself in a manger (Luke 2:7). Who would have thought that the Son of God would be born in a manger? That is why people did not recognize Jesus.

Jesus' humility lies in simplicity. Jesus did not make friends with great worldly people. Jesus made friends with sinners and tax collectors (Luke 7:34). The reason we can draw close to Jesus is because we are sinners. You cannot be a friend of Jesus unless you are a sinner. You cannot receive Jesus’ love. Jesus came to find and save sinners. The climax of Jesus' humility is that He made us, who are like prostitutes, as His brides. After making us the bride of Jesus, He makes us beautiful and blameless (Ephesians 5:27). So Christmas is a great joy for us. I wish you a blessed Christmas.
